Okay. Enough of high school posters amateur hour. I have a serious question for the Highlands fans.

 

As I read comments on here, I see where it seems that many Highlands fans felt they would probably be short on talent this year. RCC stated that coaches know what talent other teams have coming up. Obviously, coaches should know the talent on their own team as well. I agree wholeheartedly with those thoughts.

 

But that brings me to my question. When the Highlands coaches made out their schedule for the next two years, do you think they were scheduling the Northern Kentucky teams in an attempt to make the schedule weaker than in years past to match the Highlands talent? But if that is true, why schedule Scott County and St Xavier? Or, did the Highlands coaching staff not recognize their own talent issues?

 

HHS will always schedule tough...regardless of what they have coming up. That will not change. JOAT already examined the local flair and opinion of BW. That was his idea and felt that if the teams would play him, it makes sense not to travel all over the state. The teams are playing him. Teams that haven't played them in years...for whatever reason you want to put behind it.

 

I consider a 5a team (which is actually a 4a team) starting the season with 6 6a schools in a row a difficult schedule. Wouldn't you?

VOR posed a great question. I'm very curious to the answer and would like to add another question.

 

If it's coaches jobs to know what all other teams in the area have coming back, then not only why would HHS schedule St X and Scott Co., but also why schedule Ryle, SK, Cooper etc knowing they would lose those games? That's if they knew the talent on all the teams as has been stated it is their responsibility to do so.

The best the rest of the way. I do wish some of the other fans, very few of them I will add, would not be so arrogant and feel it necessary to trash other programs simply as a way to take their anger out because their team is down this year.

No. My guess is two things came into play with your question. One, schools would not play HHS. Again. For whatever you want to use as the reason. And two, my guess is that dale, based on the history of playing those NKy teams, didn't feel those teams could challenge his tens at the time. Hence he went across the river.

Personally, I don't think Highlands thought they would lose to Cooper and Ryle, and probably not to Simon Kenton either. I am guessing they thought even with a lower level of talent than in years past they would win those games and that's why they scheduled them. Very ironic if I am guessing right.

 

I would agree that they most likely felt they could beat those teams. They know what they had, but that doesn't mean they know how they will execute or react to adversity.

I think you hit on it. I've always believed it wasn't that NKY teams didn't want to play HHS as much as some HHS love to claim but more a little of both. I don't think all the local teams were even asked to play yet some HHS fans want to lump every NKY school into that category. I also believe just as much that Dale rather play OH teams and Fla teams because of the challenge and competition over NKY schools.

JOATs post makes a whole lot more sense than yours and others who claim it's everyone else's job to know what HHS had coming back and chose this year to pounce on the wounded beast.

 

I'm saying its a coach's job to know everything about potential opponents. Its not that tough to find out!!! It's actually very easy.

 

You tell us why none of those schools have played HHS for years. You want to quiz us, why don't you come up with THE reason they didn't. Cause the fact is, they didn't. We've heard why potentially Ryle didn't. Why didn't any others?

So you are saying all those years HHS would rather play Lloyd and Conner than Ohio teams and Fla teams? You are saying Dale would rather play Dayton or Grant Co.? Really?

That's a question I'm not sure we know. Many like to think that the halls are filled with out if district talent and that's what has carried the birds over the years. When in reality, that's been about 5% of their teams. With 100 kids, that comes to 5 players. Sometimes more and sometime less. What people see and label the program with is when some of those out of district players are the stars. Then the perception becomes it's because of all the out of district kids that carry them. When in reality, 95% of the team came from within the district or the feeder schools such as southgate or the private schools in a around Ft Thomas. My guess anyone with open enrollment (so anyone in NKy other than Boone schools) have just about the same out of district percentages as HHS.

 

Now to answer your question, this team has kids that came from out of district too. Did the lock down over the last couple years have an effect on the talent, I really can't answer that. I think it's easy to say yes, but I couldn't, nor could anyone else say it did for sure.

 

But the doors are open again. The city is growing and the elementary schools are remodeling and expanding! So there will be room very soon!!

I already told you what I think a big reason was. Dale would rather of played teams from across the river and other nationally known teams than NKY teams. I also said I'm sure some schools didn't want to play HHS but again there is no evidence as some have stated that ALL NKY teams didn't want to play HHS.

I don't follow Highlands closely, like I said "just a ?" Not looking for an argument, I think this thread has had enough of them.
