It's not an argument, just a question. If you wonder whether a 1-5 start is due to a lack of tuition students, you must think that tuition students have been a big part of the program. So, the question of who you think was a tuition student is a legitimate one. Fact is, they just haven't been a big part of the program.

A Highlands coach scouted the CCH game last Saturday sitting on the visitors side. Wasn't hard to miss because he was wearing all Highlands gear. Now that's old school. Gotta love it.

So do you think its possible that coaches could talk to each other and spread information? Say for example, Ryle coaches talking to cooper coaches at a coaches clinic. You don't think they could possibly talk about the talent level of Highlands being down? Having played Highlands the past few year, Ryle is very aware of the talent throughout the Highlands program. Don't you think this is a more reasonable answer, than to assume that random teams just scouted Highlands games?

Coaches know what's coming up the next few years via the results of their freshmen and JV teams. They certainly know who the better players are around the area. I'm positive the coaches with feeder systems go to the games now and then to see some of the younger kids.

 

The coaches know who is coming up and what teams are going to be respectable over the next few years. Highlands coaches wouldn't worry about the Dayton's, Ludlow's or Lloyd's of the world because there's no chance they're going to play those teams. But I'm sure they pay some attention to the teams that could potentially end up on their schedule.

 

If your coach doesn't have an idea of the talent coming up in his school and the schools that may end up on his schedule, then he's not putting his team in the best position to win.

Is this a thread to put children, coaches, ex coaches and staff down or a thread to try and find a solution to make the birds better? These childish post aren't doing the birds a bit of good to be honest. We all think we know what needs to be done but in reality we know nothing unless we are in the locker room with the boy's and coaches. Why not end this now and be the better person/ adult. Walk away I challenge everyone of you to just walk away.

Not sure if Mitchell was or not but I am leaning towards yes he was a tuition player. Connor on the other hand was not a tuition player, he was a Fort Thomas resident.

 

I think there may have been a couple more on the 2004 team besides Mitchell but not positive. Other than the 2004 team, I can't think of any real standout tuition players that have come through.

You're right, Josh did move to FTH from Southgate right before hs. I had forgotten that.

The only times I know that coaches are at other games is during bye weeks and they are scouting future opponents. I don't know of anyone that goes to other schools games scouting players that they won't even face that season. Yet we are to believe that Conner, SK, and Cooper have been sending coaches to Highlands games last year so they would know what Highlands was returning. Sorry RCC9, I understand you are a coach and all for another sport, but I'd love to know how many games you have attended of teams that you won't even face that season.

 

zero. But I can tell you that I find out about them and know a lot about them whether I'm playing them or not. Because I want to play good teams. If I know a team will be up one year, I will call to play them. Do I keep up with every team in the state, no...but I know the majority of the teams that have good programs and I follow them by word of mouth and scores. It's my job to understand what the competition is doing and create the most challenging schedule for my team. You want to use extreme examples like "does HHS coaches know who plays for WV." You can find an exception to any rule. I'd ask you...what's the chances HHS puts WV on the schedule vs SK, Cooper or Ryle looking into putting HHS on the schedule. It's about knowing about potential match ups and making schedule decisions ahead of time. Again, we will never know if any of this garbage played into the decision. But again, regardless of the reason they are all playing, I can guarantee you coaches know what their potential opponents have coming back and how strong they "should/could" be.

Actually they were not "tuition" students. They moved into the school district and thus did not pay tuition.

Well you're going pretty far back. And you are creating the perception that I spoke of. Because you can name a few of the star players over a long period of time that were tuition students doesn't mean that HHS relies on tuition students. Take all the examples you come up with, tell us how many years that spans, times that by 100 kids per year then tell me what percentage of the kids that you were able to name made up the success. I bet you come up with about 1-2%.

 

It's easy to name the tuition kids that did make a huge impact because outsiders want to blame the success of the Birds on something other than their program being outstanding. But what everyone forgets, for every tuition student star, HHS fans can name 15-20 homegrown kids that had just as much and many times more of an impact on the success.

Quit twisting my words...Where in the world did I say "coaches scout teams"?? I haven't used the word scout on one post. I said they know what teams have and what they have coming. I have NEVER scouted one team and I could give you a run down of just about every NKY softball program and girl's bball program (both my daughters play bball). Where they stand today and where they will be 3-4 years from now. It's not that hard. I can tell you right now who will be up or down for this year and the next 3.

2004 is the year that seemed to really bring this perception.

 

As JOAT stated , Mike Mitchell was NOT a tuition student. His family rented in Ft Thomas. I'm not sure if Sheffield or Stowers were or not. I'd guess Nevels was.

 

My impression is that it simply hasn't happened much since then.

How would (or again, why would they care about a team they don't play) they know about a team if they didn't scout? Actually to save you some time if ou are going to say by watching JV games etc. There are some varsity coaches that don't even watch JV games because while the JV games are taking place they are in practice with varsity with film and other things. Not every HS Football coach pays a lot attention to JV especially from other schools.
