August 10, 201511 yr Now that this thread has predictably devolved into trying to say which of the past two President's have been at the root cause of all problems in everyone's life, I will try and get back to the debate. Trump KNOWS he is not going to win nor does he care. His biggest fan is himself and he is just masterfully using this platform for attention. He is brilliant at it. From a pure entertainment standpoint you have to root for him to bow out of the race and be invited to the debates as an Independent candidate. I'm not sold that Trump can't win nor that he knows he can't win.
August 10, 201511 yr I finally watched some snippets of the debate last night, but didn't take in enough to offer anything of substance. One thing that did stick out to me, and it doesn't amount to anything...has Jeb Bush lost a lot of weight?
August 10, 201511 yr I'm not sold that Trump can't win nor that he knows he can't win. You may be right, but I just can't see it. He is no dummy and has to realize his potential going forward. Also amazing he has gone this long without having to know or answer for any specific issue. I could see his numbers staying constant, but if candidates start to drop, I don't see those votes going to Trump.

At this point I have no clue what to think but Trump being the leader in the polls after the debate is still a tremendous start for his campaign and his chances.

I think he'll fizzle, but who knows. A lot of people are really bitter and he's feeding off that. He's also not afraid to offend people. That's both his greatest asset and liability IMO. I don't mind it myself, because it seems like Americans wake up every morning trying to figure out how they can be offended today. I say offend away. :lol2:
August 10, 201511 yr His strategy is to offend people because it is entertaining. What he is most proud of from last Thursday's debate is the fact that it drew 22 million people. Had he not been it, the debate would have drawn "2,000,000 people." It is must watch television. I give him that. He is going Bulworth without booze, pot, and free-style rapping.

Trump's not dumb, he knows that long term he'll bank much more than he spends out of pocket. He's a master promoter.

August 10, 201511 yr It's my understanding that the candidates have a lot of say in what gets discussed during a debate. I wonder if the candidates drove the content or Fox News did. I wonder what % of primary voters base their vote on issues like abortion or prayer or immigration. I'd then wonder what % of all voters in the general election do the same.
August 10, 201511 yr Morning Joe said that Hillary is the luckiest person in America since we are now only talking Trump.

August 10, 201511 yr Morning Joe said that Hillary is the luckiest person in America since we are now only talking Trump. I don't think he is far from being right...IMO the less of her America sees the better for her it is. Edited August 10, 201511 yr by Jumper_Dad
August 10, 201511 yr The key will be when candidates start dropping out, due to lack of interest or money, where do their supporters go? Trump is leading with about a quarter of the vote right now, but if several drop out early in the primaries and this becomes a 2,3 or 4 person race next spring who ever picks up those stray votes will get the nomination. As long as there are 6-10+ people in the race it is a huge advantage for Trump if for no other reason than name recognition.
