He's not wrong. We are all over the place population-wise whereas these animals are endangered. One less human doesn't make a difference in the grand scheme of things, one less lion (when there aren't many left) is a different story.

 

 

I am not saying kill lots of people to solve the world's problems, but if it is a numbers game we have definitely moved beyond our ecological niche.

To be fair I believe there is a sub species that is endangered. There is no doubt the population decline is troubling and we need to do what ever we can to help the numbers.

Human life, as animal life, has no inherent or intrinsic value. The only value that it has is that which we place upon it.

 

Frankly if this dentist had been mauled by the animal he was hunting after it lured off of its protected space then I wouldn't have shed a tear. Of course to be fair it is hard to make me cry on issues such as this in general. I am more concerned about the planet at that point, but in the long run it won't matter. All life is destined for eventual extinction anyway. I'd just rather we bot be the primary reason.

 

We aren't in danger yet of such population thinning. Although if the world population of humans decreased by 50% in 30 years I think people would be freaking out.

 

We are animals that have developed technology, medicine, weapons, and society beyond any on this planet. As such we have overbred to the point where there aren't many species on this planet that outbumber us anymore.

 

To answer your question I don't have a set number because I am not an economist of living systems. I am merely saying that since there are 233,334 people on this planet for every 1 lion, we probably ought to be better shepherds since there was 250,000 lions in 1975 and about 30,000 today.

 

In the end I am not going to threaten this guy, I am not going to post on social media about it. I just think that defending him is a bit silly since he is helping push a species closer to being endangered.

To be clear I'm not defending him. I will defend the right to hunt lions in a manner that is laid out buy the African government. If they decide to completely outlaw it I'm fine with that as well.

If you go to the Clinton News Network and search Cecil the lion there have been 36 articles written in the last week. Search Planned Parenting and you get 19 articles and an add for an abortion clinic.
