MLB Trade Deadline

Featured Replies

Apparently the Mets were going to give the Reds Wheeler for Bruce as well. Zimmer and Wheeler to stud pitchers with crazy potential and in Wheelers case a proven MLB track record already. However no way do I trade for an injured pitcher, Especially Zimmer who is fragile. Wheeler maybe because he already has 49 big league starts under his belt and more than likely will come back stronger than ever but I'd still pass on a guy unless he's 100 percent healthy. The Reds and Cincinnati sports in general are to unlucky to risk it.

With Zimmer out of the question the Royals have Manea that they could offer. I personally like him better than Zimmer because he's a lefty starter but he also comes with health concerns. Then they have Finnegan who is in KCs Bullpen right now and is also a lefty that could maybe be moved back to starting if he gets his control worked out. Then there's Mondesi who is maybe still to young to know about but he has all the tools at SS that is a fact. At this point I'd almost need all three of I'm the Reds as the injury concerns and unproveness of the KC prospects doesn't impress me. I'd maybe go for Finnegan and Mondesi with a Bubba Starling throw in.

It seems at least according to this Dave Gershman guy who seems to have some credibility that it wasn't healthy concerns that have slowed the deal with KC. It was demands not being met surrounding Bubba Starling. My guess is the Reds want him as a throw in secondary piece to a deal and the Royals don't want to give that much up.

Also heard that it wasn't medical issues that caused deal to fall through, it was that demands weren't met on either side. Yet.

Also heard that player that stalled deal was in fact Bubba Starling, who has been tearing it up all year. Binford is a name that could go.

Pitchers, Pitchers, Pitchers when Reds can't hit and get runners in from third. Maybe they can shut everybody out.

Uh huh

@Jimbowden_ESPN: #Royals & #Reds continue to work on deal that would send Johnny Cueto to KC despite hiccup as first reported by @ken_Rosenthal & @jonmorosi

@ken_Rosenthal: Sources: Momentum building toward Hamels trade. Offers have improved since no-hitter. Teams asking for less money, offering better players.

@ken_Rosenthal: The five teams with the most recent interest in Hamels: #Cubs , #Dodgers , #Rangers , #Yankees , #SFGiants . Not listed in any particular order.

The Catcher in the deal Nottingham has been on the rise all season. He has cracked several top 75 lists and is more like a B to B+ level prospect than a C level prospect. With this taken into consideration the haul for the A's looks a lot better. Nottingham has huge raw abilities and power. Nottingham this year has a slash line of .326/.383/.558/.941 and 14 homers split between A and A+ ball at age 20. Baseball America has him as the Astros #9 prospect in their midseason update.

Minorleagueball.com has Nottingham as the#71 prospect in baseball at the midseason point just ahead of the Reds Amir Garrett at #72 . They seem to think he could move up even more before season end and had this to say: Crushing A-ball pitching at age 20, stock moving up but I want more information before going higher than this. If final reports back up the numbers, will rank much higher in three months.

I think it's obvious that Nottingham was the main piece in this deal for the A's and one that could be a top 50 prospect before seasons end. I'd say the Reds can get a top 50 midseason prospect based on Kazmir netting a top 75 prospect. I'd be happy with that haul as a reds fan for Cueto especially if they can get another prospect ranked within the trading teams organizational top 20 prospects. FWIW some other guys ranked by minorleagueball inside the 40-60 range on their midseason update which is what I think the Reds get for Cueto are #45 Dalton Pompey of the Jays, #52 Brandon Nimmo of the Mets, #55 Mark Appel of the Astros, #56 AJ Reed of the Astros, #59 Michael Feliz of the Astros, #66 Tyler Beede of the Giants, #67 Josh Hader of the Astros, #68 Sean Meanea of the Royals, #69 Gavin Cecchini of the Mets, #74 Derek Fisher of the Astros and #75 Alex Meyer of the Twins.

The Astros farm system is stacked and I could still see them going all in and acquiring Cueto as well. It's been years since they've been in this position and they still have two rookies in their rotation and Cueto would make their chances even greater obviously. They held onto their top prospects in the Kazmir deal and it wouldn't kill them to part with one of the guys mentioned above. They also have #2 9 Brett Phillips that they could part with.

I'd love to acquire AJ Reed, Derek Fisher or Brett Phillips from the Astros although I don't think they would give Phillips up.

With our (Astros) troubles at 1st base I can't see the Astros trading AJ Reed. Singleton and Carter are just not getting it done at 1st for us and we need some new life there and some of the fans believe Reed will be a September call-up. With the Kazmir trade we now have the #1 & #2 best pitchers in the AL for ERA (Keuchel & Kazmir). I believe the Astros are done trading for pitchers however, I could be way wrong. If we want to win this year we need corner IF help.

@buster_ESPN: One of the players discussed in the Royals' Cueto trade talks is pitcher Sean Manaea, who has had past hip trouble. Sean Manaea Minor League Statistics & History | Baseball-Reference.com

I like Manea but the health concerns scare me. He certainly has nice stuff and size to go along with the fact he's a lefty. I could see him being a nice number 3 starter down the road, maybe a 2. More and more I'm not excited by what the Royals can offer us however and I wish another team with more to offer would come in with a package that can't be refused. With time still left I'd hate to sell to soon after waiting all this time now.

Brandon Finnegan is in the trade. If we get him Walt worked some serious magic. He was the most impressive player in the playoffs last year to me. Wow

Hearing one piece is Finnegan which is one of the pieces I wanted due to his MLB experience and being able to come right to our big club. Has great stuff if he can control it be can be a top of the rotation guy otherwise he's just a bullpen guy. Rated #55 to start the season. If he ends up being in the pen it could be a bad trade. Hopefully Manea, Mondesi or Starling are also included.

Mondesi will not be included with Finnegan. No chance...

What part of his post season pitching impressed you so much, his 1.2 inings pitched in the WS giving up 5 hits and 5 earned runs?
