If you can get a bat like AJ you don't turn it down. He has enough athleticism to probably switch to left field and has the arm to as well. Who knows he could maybe even play 3rd base with Frazier moving somewhere. The point is if you can acquire a polished bat like AJ Reed you don't turn it down. Votto isn't getting any younger so who knows if in a couple years he is even getting the job done any more, with his contract we hope he is but its no guarantee and the Reds have no other 1st Basemen in the pipeline. Lavalley will maybe eventually be a 1st Baseman and maybe Stephenson as well but who knows.

 

I would prefer an outfielder but there's no way I'd pass on Reed.

I would offer to drive Chapman to the airport if the Reds are able to swing Fedde (who they were scouting last night) and Robles from the Nationals for him. I'd love Trea Turner, but I don't see them being willing to part with him.

Just off of seeing him play I think he could handle left field. I haven't ready any reports on him not being able to play out there but I believe you, I was just going off my personal opinion. And like you said the first person to pop in my mind as a comp was Adam Dunn.

That would be a great package. From what I've read Fedde is the real deal in terms of his arsenal of pitches and make up, a potential ace and top of the rotation pitcher. Health is a question but it seems like his recovery was handled the right way and he's looked good although a tad rusty. Robles is shooting up the Nats prospect ranks with this being his first year playing in the states. The Nats are pretty high on Robles so I don't know if they'd part with him but that would be a nice package for Chapman.

AJ Reed will eat himself out of the game if he's not careful. Heck of a ball player, but he needs to stay in the AL. His defense is really below average so a DH gives him an opportunity to make it.

Because you can never have too much pitching, especially young pitching.

Elite top of the rotation pitchers are very hard to come by. You have the opportunity to get one, you take it.

Building up your system with good pitchers would then allow you to be able to trade for a good hitter/s. You can never have enough quality arms in your system. I think they feel that they have some quality young hitters coming up in the ranks but I agree with you that there is a definite need for this team to get better with risp. Today they have too many swing and miss guys in the lineup and only a few that perform well with risp.

I think the Reds need to take the best prospects they feel they get in return for their guys. So if it's a stud pitcher, go for it. But look at the Cubs recent success with all the offense that has come up through the system. I think the Reds need to focus on getting offensive threats back.

The Cubs' recent success? They're 8 games over .500 & 9.5 games out of their division. They haven't finished over .500 since 2009.
