July 24, 201511 yr Compared to the previous years they're great and heading in the right direction. Time will tell. It's all about the pitching. I'm skeptical that Hammel and Arrieta (to a lesser extent) can sustain this season's success over a long period.

They're better than they have been (not saying much) and certainly trending in the right direction. But I don't consider 3rd in the NL Central & 9.5 games out of 1st place the type of success worth emulating. As UKMF alluded, the Cubs do not have the pitching to be a serious contender. With that said, they have the payroll capability to pursue some big time pitching (i.e. Cueto this offseason).

Anyway, look at their top prospects in the minors, most are all offensive guys. Now they might need a little more balance, but I really like their philosophy.

Ahh, who the hell am I kidding, they're the Cubs, it doesn't matter what they do, they aren't winning anything. :lol2:

With the current lack of offense pitching is much easier to acquire--especially power bullpen arms. The Royals have built the 2nd best record in baseball with starters with ERAs of: 3.15, 3.32, 3.98, 4.24, 5.19 and 5.36. Offense is at much more of a premium right now.

I tend to agree with you and I think the Cubs are certainly on the right path, especially since they'll be able to afford some of the premier arms in free agency (Greinke, Cueto, Samardjza, etc.). I don't think the Reds can necessarily follow that blueprint, because they can't afford the big-time FA's.

I agree, but that was my point. Whether it be through the draft or FA and trades, they have to address pitching, and they are capable of that. The rest was just my way of taking a shot at the Cubs. :lol2:

I think they can get into the wild card. The Cubs would be tied for 1st in the NL East with the Nationals. Heck, even the Reds are 16-12 against the NL East this year. :lol:

Every day that passes my previous confidence shrinks more and more.
July 24, 201511 yr They'll start making moves after tomorrow. Cueto will be the first one to go off of this team then others will be moved. If it gets to Thursday and nothing has been done I will panic.
