July 26, 201511 yr I love having all the arms you can get but they need to go after some position players with the next trade. I'm sure with the Leake and Chapman deals they will go for bats.

July 26, 201511 yr I love having all the arms you can get but they need to go after some position players with the next trade. I don't think they are done by any means. Let's hope they go after some good near major league ready hitters that aren't big swing and miss guys.
July 26, 201511 yr Surplus of pitchers could be used to trade for bats. I think the Reds did very good in this trade.
July 26, 201511 yr I'm sure with the Leake and Chapman deals they will go for bats. If I read right, Chapman is eligible for arbitration after this season. What could he possibly get per season?
July 26, 201511 yr If I read right, Chapman is eligible for arbitration after this season. What could he possibly get per season? Now I have absolutely no facts to back this up but I'm thinking he's a 11-13 mill guy.
July 26, 201511 yr Now I have absolutely no facts to back this up but I'm thinking he's a 11-13 mill guy. And for a team that will be out of it next year, they aren't in position to pay a close that money. He is the guy that has to be traded the most now.
July 26, 201511 yr Now I have absolutely no facts to back this up but I'm thinking he's a 11-13 mill guy. He's as popular now around the league as he ever was after the All Star game, I was thinking maybe even 14 mill, don't know how exactly arbitration works though for closers.
July 26, 201511 yr And for a team that will be out of it next year, they aren't in position to pay a close that money. He is the guy that has to be traded the most now. I agree. He has to be number 1 on the trade list. No need for a dominant closer on a 70 win team. He's as popular now around the league as he ever was after the All Star game, I was thinking maybe even 14 mill, don't know how exactly arbitration works though for closers. I'm not sure either which is why my estimate was a shot in the dark. His number could be increased by the fact he has the potential to be a starter.
July 26, 201511 yr I love having all the arms you can get but they need to go after some position players with the next trade. I agree with this, but at the same time what positions do the Reds shoot for? You have a young good bat with power in Meso(in left at some point am assuming), Hamilton in center, if Bruce moves you do have to cover that position with power and average hopefully. The infield seems set, unless they move Phillips and even then you have a young Suarez(to move to 2nd possibly) and Cozart back next season at short. I guess you could use a catcher. Do the Reds then just mostly ask for A and AA bats with with power and batting average potential no matter what the position?
July 26, 201511 yr Extremely pleased with the return that the Reds received for Cueto. If Walt can get a promising young hitter with Leake and Chapman, and still mange to move Phillips I think the Reds can rebound quickly.

I could see the Reds hovering around .500 next season and maybe a run at the wildcard the following season if they can acquire some AA or AAA bats in the next wave of deals.

I'll agree with that. The Reds should have at least 9 pitchers competing for 5 rotation spots next year. Homer Bailey Anthony DeSclafani Michael Lorenzen Raul Iglesias Brandon Finnegan Tony Cingrani Robert Stevenson Jon Moscot John Lamb

Sampson will be in the mix, Reed could be a long shot if he gets an invite to Big League Camp and impresses. It's a good problem to have and this isn't even considering guys that aren't quite as close such as Garrett who is a top 75 prospect in his own right, Romano, Travieso, Crawford and the entire Dayton staff that's been tearing it up this season.
July 27, 201511 yr It's just nice to see this team is now trying to head into a certain direction. The past two years have been miserable as they were just treading water and trying to patch holes into a sinking boat. They are trying now, and I can get behind that.
