July 29, 201511 yr Question, if the Reds are trading for bats, where are said bats going to play? Only open position next year is left field right? So the Mesorasco experiment in left won't be happening next year?
July 29, 201511 yr So the Mesorasco experiment in left won't be happening next year? Plan is for him to catch. Winker will likely have a chance to win that job.
July 29, 201511 yr Plan is for him to catch. Winker will likely have a chance to win that job. I hope they hold him back another year, another season at AAA will do him wonders. This team will suck next year anyway, don't need to destroy his confidence. Can't wait for the kid to be up to the club though.

The dream-case scenario would be for Meso to find success in left and the Reds somehow make a deal for Schwarber from the Cubs to catch, maybe deal Winker for him.
July 29, 201511 yr It's a shame the Reds couldn't have gotten him instead of Lamb and Reed. Love Manea but from what I've read Reed is very similar and shooting up the prospect ranks. Most project him to enter the top 100 following the season. I'll take Reed just because it probably allowed the Royals to include Lamb as a 3rd piece. They are all very good pitchers the Royals were stacked with lefties before the trades they made.

Schwarber might not even end up at catcher long term. Meso will be fine, guys come back from his injury before and he is a fine defender. A defensive combination of Winker in LF and Meso behind the plate is far better than Meso in LF and Schwarber at Catcher. Winker is a very good player in his own right, he and Schwarber are both young and it's still a toss up as to who has the better career. It would take Winker and Stephenson to get Schwarber and that might not even work.
July 29, 201511 yr Are there even any left fielders out there that are being used as trade bait? Would think you could package a red hot Leake and Byrd for a quality left fielder and pitching prospects.

Agree with all of that, my post is based on only on Meso not being able to come back fully as a catcher and finding spring training success and making himself into a left fielder. If so, I easily make that Winker/Stephenson deal for Schwarber(but the Cubs wouldn't )

Doubt either are interested in Byrd.
