July 29, 201511 yr I would guess something in the 5-15 range of a teams prospects. It just seems hard to believe that of all the starting left fielders in baseball the Reds couldn't even get the tiniest of an upgrade from Byrd for Leake and Byrd, heck throw Schumacher in as well.

Winker could be ready next year, most likely 2016. The Reds are better off getting a young guy to stash in the minors at a low cost. Any established OF is going to be expensive and likely no better than Byrd. There aren't many hitters on the matter period left alone for Byrd, Schumacher, and Leake.

Would think you could package a red hot Leake and Byrd for a quality left fielder and pitching prospects. Most teams that are in contention aren't going to trade away a quality hitter for a #3 starter and an average OFer when both are rentals. It happens every once in awhile like the A's with Cespedes last year but it is rare. Most teams want to add to their big league roster, not take easy from it.

Storen has pitched in 6 postseason games (4 in 2012 vs. STL in NLDS & 2 vs. SF in NLDS). In 2012, Storen pitched well in his 1st 3 appearances (1 inning each, no hits, no runs). It was his 4th appearance (Game 5) where he got the loss, pitching 1 inning, giving up 3 hits, 4 walks & 4 earned runs. The Nationals lost 9-7. In 2014, Storen pitched in Games 2 & 3 of the NLDS. He blew a save in game 1 by giving up 2 hits (but 0 ER) in 1/3 of an inning. The Nats lost that game 2-1. In Game 3, Storen actually gave up the only run that SF scored but the Nationals won 4-1.

July 29, 201511 yr The best chance the Reds have at a major league ready left fielder or very close to ready is most likely going to come from a team that has one stashed in the minor leagues. A scenario would be Chapman, Leake and Byrd for Judge of the Yankees. Not sure the Yanks would do that or if the numbers would match up for them financially or any of that but that's their best chance. A package of Leake and Chapman rather than individually would probably net a very good hitting prospect at an advanced level of the minor leagues. Byrd could be thrown in and could be especially appealing for a AL team that could use OF depth or help at the DH spot. The Cubs could use a starter and a closer. Maybe Leake, Chapman and Byrd for Soler. Leake and Chapman would help them greatly and they have the money to resign both of them, Chapman they'd have for next years run. Byrd plugs right in and replaces Solers production for the rest of this year. The Cubs use Byrd for next season as well if they need to or sign a free agent or promote from their stacked farm system such as Billy McKinney. Maybe Bryant shift to the outfield and if they still have Castro than Baez moves to 3rd or Mike Olt plays 3rd. No idea and I'd hate to trade in the division but it's just a scenario. The Cubs have a lot of flexibility.
