If they really wanted a bigger haul they would have traded him last season. It looks like they got a couple of mid to back of the rotation arms and a good bullpen arm. Not bad for someone they were going to lose anyway.

And the fact that all 3 are left-handed, IMO, only makes them more attractive. I do think they're going to try and make Finnegan a starter again. I think he could be a solid 2-3 starter if he can make the transition successfully.
July 27, 201511 yr Three guys that all now rank within the Reds organizational top 15. Finnegan would now be the Reds number 1 prospect right now due to his experience already at the big league level at worst he's number 2 behind Stephenson. MLB.com has Reed inside the Reds top 10 prospects and Lamb inside the top 15 but both are still on the rise. Reed is a name that's been growing nationally and could actually become a number 1 or 2 starter if he keeps improving, from what I've read his stock is really growing with each start. His velecity continues to grow and his slider keeps improving to go along with much better control. Lamb won't be a prospect much longer because I expect him to start a number of games for the Reds this season but his stock was also on the rise as he gets back to his old self which was maybe the top left handed pitching prospect in baseball. Did anyone really dream that the Reds would be able to acquire not just another teams hottest name prospect wise in Finnegan but two complementary pieces that slot into the Reds top 15 prospects all left handed guys that have the ability to start. I thought the Reds would get one guy ranked around 50th nationally which they got in Finnegan and then I wasn't really sure what else they'd get as complimentary pieces. Never did I expect to get a top prospect that has already showed his dominance in the bigs and two other guys that are both trending names that are borderline top 150 prospects. If the reds can add some bats this will be a very quick rebuild and the team will at least be exciting to watch once again even if they only hover around .500 next season.

I think he could be a solid 2-3 starter if he can make the transition successfully. He was really thrown into the pen because the Royals were postseason bound and needed a boost. The Royals from what I've gathered never intended to leave him in the pen longterm but as we've seen with Chapman once a guy has success there it's hard to move him. A move to the Reds organization gives him the chance to begin working on starting again immediately and getting his stamina built back up. It also provides him the chance to work with a new pitching coach and a good one in Ted Powers and maybe pick up a few tips that might help him out especially in the control department where he has struggled as a starter. I honestly think with this trade Finnegan becomes an absolute stud lefty that will be a top of the rotation guy, he could already be there if it weren't for the Royals pressing need for a lefty out of the pen.

He struggled the 1st couple seasons after returning, but last season and now this year he appears to be returning to form. His AAA numbers this season are very good. I expect he's in the rotation sooner rather than later.
July 27, 201511 yr Lamb has been slotted by MLB.com as the #13 prospect in the Reds organization and Reed is now slotted as the #7 organizational prospect. That alone would've been a solid return for Cueto. The fact that they got a guy like Finnegan as well makes it very good IMO.
July 27, 201511 yr Kansas City ain't exactly the Big Apple. Right. I'm assuming they're about the same market size as Cincy. But, they're winning and have a shot to win it all this year if they make to post season. Some small markets are a little smarter/business savvy than others.
