It was said on Twitter in fact it was Bubba Starling who's medicals didn't clear. Reds were super high on him and it couldn't work out. That stinks as he could be a really good OF in the MLB in the near future.

I guess some people still buy them. But the only ones that are worth any real money are the ones prior to Donruss and Fleer getting back into the market. Overproduction and speculation destroyed the baseball card hobby. Although I'm sure there are still a few people holding out hope that the 500 Ken Griffey Jr. rookie cards they have will still fund their kid's college education.

 

On another note, a guy I know contracts with MLB to shoot photos for baseball cards. I'd love to get in on that gig.

I think the Reds did very well with what they got in return. They weren't signing Cueto and they need to restock the system with promising talent, especially promising arms. I think they have done this.

 

I really like Finnegan and hope they can stretch him out to being a starter. Lamb was making a push to hit the Royals rotation this season and I can see him sliding into the starting five before they finish the year. With Reed, you get a power lefty and those are hard to find.

 

I have no qualms with this trade and applaud Walt and Company of finally pulling the trigger and hopefully setting course for an actual direction and not just drifting.

 

I do hope they hold on to Bruce unless they get an offer that knocks their socks off, because he is under their control and is relatively cheap.

 

Everyone else is fair game.

 

We will miss Cueto because he was an integral part of the team finally hitting its stride and into the playoffs and for the Reds an actual homegrown prospect. Its tough to see him go but he will be back as a member of the Reds Hall of Fame.

I like Sterling as well but id rather have the package they got actually. There are reason that Bubba Sterling went from a can't miss stud prospect to barely cracking the Royals top 10 prospects. He's yet to put together a season that makes him out to be a sure thing. Right now he seems more like a 4th OFer than a starter but that still has time to change. He has the tools but he's really no more impressive than Yorman Rodriguez up to this point, I'd definitely rather acquire the extra arm in the trade. When I look at Sterlings scouting report and stat lines from his career I can't help but think he's another Drew Stubbs and as a Reds fan I can live without that. I'm not saying I'd love to have him cause I would due to his upside and the Reds shortage of bars but after seeing the package the Reds recieved and doing some HW on those guys I wouldn't change a thing.

There was talk on the ESPN game tonight that the Yankees have the farm system to deal for a Chapman/Kimbrel. What are some names in that system that would be a big asset to immediately help the Reds if they were to deal Chapman there or package Chapman/Phillips?

I would love to have some of the ones from multiple boxes when I was young ....60'S, Early 70s. I put a lot of them in spokes of a bicycle wheel to make it sound like a motorcycle, never even thinking they may be worth something one day.

It all starts with Aaron Judge a big corner outfielder sort of in the Giancarlo Stanton mold. I doubt the Yanks would give him up but maybe if the Reds throw in one of their young pitching prospects it could happen. They could also add Phillips to the deal and take on some of his salary. Judge is a big time impact bat and the best OF prospect the Yanks have had in years.

 

They have Gary Sanchez a catcher that hits for power and has a cannon for an arm.

 

Tyler Austin is a 1B/OF and can hit a little and offers versatility. He hasn't done to well at AAA this year.

 

Rob Refsnyder is a 2B that is all offense but a very good offensive player. His defense leaves a lot to be desired but he can flat out hit. He could replace Phillips right away on the big league team but we would really mis BPs Defense but who wouldn't.

 

Those are guys that are close to being ready to help out the big league team. I personally wouldn't make a trade unless they included either Stanton or Refsnyder, I'd love to have Sanchez but he's a catcher and we have some nice catchers.

 

The Yankees also have nice infield depth in the lower minors, most of them teenagers that have been signed from the Dominican or other countries overseas. I'd like to dig into some of that depth but they are so young and raw.

The little kid in me is sad today. I know the Redlegs are small market and cannot hold on to their superstars. This business deal HAD to be made for the good of the company which is the Cincinnati Reds. Cueto deserves to go make as much money for his family as he can. The old man in me understands this well, he's just going to have to console that little kid in me.
