MLB.com has Reed currently ranked as the Reds #7 prospect and Lamb the #1 3 prospect, Finnegan doesn't qualify obviously or he would probably be #1 or #2 on the list. Pretty neat to see an updated list already. This list doesn't include the recent draft picks, I'm pretty sure Stephenson, Trahan and Bell will all be on the list.

Why did we assign this kid to AAA? After what I saw today, he's ready.

Who was assigned to AAA?

If your referring to Finnegan he is being worked back out to be a starter at AAA and if all goes well we might see him later this season. I believe the first new acquisition we see for the Reds will be Lamb, he is being assigned to AAA I believe although I figured he'd step right in for Cueto based on his experience level and success this season at AAA.

Will Stephenson be ready next season to be a starter with the big club?

So no Finnegan or Lamb until late August maybe?

Finnegan unless used in the bullpen will need stretched out and could maybe be a September call up. I would think if Leake gets traded Lamb could be promoted then, he hasn't allowed more than 3ER in his last 10 starts and seems to be ready for a shot.

Will Stephenson be ready next season to be a starter with the big club?

Stephenson will get at least 1 start with the Reds before the year is up if not more. I think he will be with the club to start next season. There's a slight chance he could be brought up now that Cueto is gone although I think Keyvius Sampson, Josh Smith or David Holmberg might get the next shot.

I have probably paid less attention to this team than i ever have. Dysfunctional organization and really not very fun too watch. Sad

Please explain "small market " taking into consideration they have had the highest payroll in their division.

Well, I'm trying to find more recent reports regarding this issue. Here is one that is 2 years old, Power Ranking All 30 MLB Teams by Market Size | Bleacher Report, according to the author the Reds are in a somewhat smaller market but occasionally act like a mid-market team.

Here's a Forbes article that among other things lists operating income and revenue for MLB teams: The Business Of Baseball - Full List - Forbes

According to this Opposing Views site, Reds are considered small market: Analysis: Small Market vs. Big Market Teams in NFL, MLB

Another site that ranks the metropolitan areas of each ball club: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Baseball_Bugs/population

I guess I could load this up with a bunch of this stuff and people smarter than me here on BGP could probably come up with more precise info. I guess it depends on the article, but I only saw one that even indicated the Reds might be a middle market team.

This is a great deal for the Reds. Those of you poo-poohing it are acting like they should've gotten Ventura, Cain and Gordon in return. Please do a little better about understanding the realities of the economics of baseball.

The strong majority of people that have been paying attention all agree that this was a good deal for the Reds. Trading Cueto sucks, but it's the best thing for the future of the organization.

I remember in the old days,(70's and 80's) it seemed like trades were such a huge deal, one star for another star. Those big huge deals involving 6-8 players with several stars exchanging teams don't seem to happen. This is a good deal for the Reds.

And there were always cool baseball cards accompanying the event, like these:
