Just curious...

Another member stated earlier today that "sexuality is a choice", where I've always thought all along that straight men were "naturally straight without choice".

Personally, I believe we are all born heterosexual. I believe it is the natural order of things as created by God. I also believe my homosexual friends who say they were born gay are not lying, I just think they are incorrect. I'm not mad at homosexuals or think they are bad people and I hope no one tries to damn me for saying it, but you invited us to say anything that we feel was relevant.

Thank you for contributing and I hope my response doesn't come off as damning.

I don't know if I was actually born gay, but as far back as I can remember I have been attracted to the same sex, while never in my life have I ever been attracted to the opposite sex.

Why I am this way I really don't know, but I'm certain that it was not a choice.

If given the choice I would certainly have chosen to be straight and avoid all of my painful childhood paranoia living in the closet.

While the majority of the world around you is straight, and you've seen how gays can be ridiculed, choosing something that might cause you social ostracism and ridicule would not make much sense.

I had to come to terms with it all eventually to accept myself and try to live a happy life, but initially I most certainly would have chosen to be straight if given the chance.

Is it possible that it's different for every person? That some are born that way, and some actually do make a choice?

As for the question at hand, I never made a decision to like girls. That's just how it was.

I understand what you are saying. I can respond to a couple things you say, but I do not want to open up the same can of worms. I am open to having the discussion, but I just want to make sure that this is the direction that you want to go.

I think you are born that way. Having said that I come from a family with deep religious roots who see homosexuality as a sin (choice).

I do also believe that some are confused about their orientation so they choose acts or actions that are homosexual in nature, as they are trying to sort it out.

Whenever this discussion comes up, I always ask the "choice" side: Why in the world would anyone "choose" to be gay, knowing the pain and persecution that comes from society for that "choice" ?

One of those things that makes you go hmmm...

Okay, so here is my logic. I'm drastically more attracted to white, blonde girls than any other type of female. I don't recall making that choice, ever.

Therefore, it would make perfect sense to me if someone said that they didn't chose what they are attracted to.

Plus, if my being attracted to one particular type of woman says anything, it says that there is certainly deviations to what human beings are attracted to. It's not that big of a jump to logically assume that a man could be attracted to something that I'm not attracted to.

I don't necessarily believe that people are born gay. But I question if things happen to them throughout their lives (often in early childhood) and they subconsciously make that decision. So in their mind, it wasn't a choice, but they weren't exactly "born gay".

Part 1:

At the end of the day, I do not believe that it's about the individual. It is about the human race and creating more people so the human race continues. With that in mind, people were born and equipped to procreate.

Part 2:

Not all people procreate. Some choose to not have children. Sadly, many physically cannot have children.

Part 3:

I do not know why people are attracted to the same sex. But I will not judge them, and I will accept them and love them just the same.

Conclusion:

People do not choose straight. They were born with the purpose to continue the species, thus the desire to seek out the opposite sex for this to happen.

Finally:

One could conclude from my conclusion that therefore, gay people choose to be gay. That is not my intended conclusion. I do not know the answer to that.
