Sad how some folks are offended by S.C. flag but are not offended by complete disrespect of the US flag and this.. Mexican Flag-Waving Illegal Has Had A Cushy Ride - Investors.com

Who is not offended by complete disrespect of the U.S. Flag?

The Confederate Flag is a symbol of disrespect to the entire country.

Immigration has always been a polarizing issue. I think it is sad that a country built by undocumented immigrants has people in it offended by an undocumented immigrant.

To be fair and balanced - and I'm nothing if not fair and balanced - there probably are some that are offended by an undocumented immigrant breathing their air. But there are probably others that are offended by the notion of an undocumented immigrant getting a penny of their hard-earned scratch.

What about old south politicians that use the Stars and Bars as part of their election...would they garner many votes in a modern day America...would anyone vote for a candidate using something like this?

A few of them are posters here on BGP:sssh::wave:
I guess you haven't seen a teenage girls room in a while, 6 out of 10 have a British flag up of some sort...they attacked the US a couple of times. Mexican flags flown all over the southwest, over some government buildings and businesses...they attacked the US.

I'm not defending the flag, take it down. Just wondering what caused the change in attitudes.

Not meaning to "nit pick" but . . .

We weren't a nation when the Revolution started, so that English incursion doesn't really add up in the equation.

When did Mexico attack the US? The Texans fired on the Mexican army first in 1835 and when the Mexican army tried to squash the rebellion, they were eventually defeated.

The Mexican-American War started with a border dispute as the US sent troops into the disputed part of Mexico. Then it was trumped up into an American invasion.

So you didn't support Clinton/Gore either?

Just started a thread in the controversial issues thread.

Should EKU change their logo? It's based on an antebellum Sounthern Gentleman.

Should Ole Miss change their nickname?

Where do we stop?

Confederate flag is the #1 selling flag on Amazon now. Up 2000%.

We weren't a country in 1814...When British Soldiers burnt the White House?

The Thornton Affair in 1846 in which Mexican Soliders routed a small garrison of US soldiers in Texas which had become a state the year before led to the US declaring War on Mexico. The fact that Mexico may have wanted to claim Brownsville area or not, they in fact came into Texas and attacked US troops.

I get that, what happened that suddenly made the Confederate Flag off limits? The Confederate Flag has been under attack for at least 20 years, did no one care about it or think it was offensive before that?

In the area where I grew up, the Confederate flag has been off limits for most all of my life. It was a clear sign that you were prejudiced against black people if you drove around with Confederate flag bumper stickers or license plates.

Our son rolled up to the house a few years ago with a confederate flag sticker on his truck. We promptly made him remove it. That :poop: don't fly at the Compound!

I didn't discount both English examples. I was speaking in reference to the Revolution not the War of 1812. Thought I made it clear.

As to the War in 1846:

Mexican-American War - Facts & Summary - HISTORY.com

The land was disputed as not having been included in the end of the Texan War of Independence but when Polk began to fish for more territory he set up US outposts in the disputed land knowing that would trigger a conflict.

The dispute was because the treaty of 1836 was never ratified by the Mexican government. They still held a much more northern boundary. Instead of diplomacy, the US (after annexation) decided to build a fortress and force the hand of Mexico. Same thing occurred with Fremont in California in the same time frame.

I don't find it offensive but I'm not black. I just don't get the point of supporting a flag of an army who attacked the United States.

Agreed, I never did understand that.
