June 23, 201511 yr In the northern US - you know...the part of the US that fought against slavery - everyone in modern times has always seen the flag and thought, "Yikes! What is that person doing displaying that clear sign of racism and bigotry." In the southern US - where folks fought for slavery - people see the confederate flag being displayed and say, "Oh...it's just about supporting heritage." A couple of comments about the southern 'heritage' perspective, though: 1 - Why is it that I just can't seem to find any southern black people flying the stars and bars to tout their southern heritage? 2 - Germany has outlawed any displaying of the swastika, or any other items of Nazi symbolism. It's part of their history and their heritage, but they're still intelligent enough to know how terrible of a thing it represents and recognize that it should not be displayed.
June 23, 201511 yr Ebay is no longer selling the flags. They have a policy on stuff related to Nazis, KKK, etc.
June 23, 201511 yr I don't find it offensive but I'm not black. I just don't get the point of supporting a flag of an army who attacked the United States. I've always wondered what the fascination is with supporting the flag of a military who attacked the United States. "Heritage" or not, it's a fact that the Confederate Army DID attack the United States. I don't see many folks from the south jumping to adorn their trucks and t-shirts with Al Queda flags. Fact: The Confederate Army killed 350,000+ Americans in the events leading up to, during, and immediately following the American Civil War. Fact: Al Qaeda killed ~10,000 in the September 11th Attacks, Iraq, and Afghanistan combined. Why is it that country music singers rush to sing about 'putting boots in the rear ends' of Al Qaeda fighters, yet they won't so much as touch any similar issues when it comes to the Confederate Army...who killed 35 times as many Americans as Al Qaeda? Instead, they've got the likes of Blake frigging Shelton singing pridefully about "Tearin' dow a dirt road, rebel flag flying, coon dog in the back..."
June 23, 201511 yr Well, I'm not much of a country music fan. Coon dogs and rebel flags aren't in my repertoire. I do like to listen to some of the angel-voiced ladies. Emmylou Harris, Dolly Parton, Alison Krauss.

Huge difference between terrorists and civil war. It was American vs American. South was claiming they had a right to secede and they were wrong.
June 23, 201511 yr Author Any chance anyone has every flown that flag or put it on their truck just because they were proud to be a southerner. That flag for better or worse has been a symbol of the south for our entire lives. Some people rightly or wrongly just look at it as a symbol of the south and not as a racist symbol. This guy looks at it differently... "To me it is a heritage thing and a pride thing. It is not a racist thing whatsoever," Thomas told WTOC. http://www.wbtv.com/story/16173687/student-wins-fight-to-hang-confederate-flag-in-dorm-window
June 23, 201511 yr Has to do with Bill signing a law to add Confederate Symbolism into Arkansas flag in 1987.
June 24, 201511 yr I guess you haven't seen a teenage girls room in a while, 6 out of 10 have a British flag up of some sort...they attacked the US a couple of times. Mexican flags flown all over the southwest, over some government buildings and businesses...they attacked the US. I'm not defending the flag, take it down. Just wondering what caused the change in attitudes. Which government buildings in the southwest fly the Mexican flag? Also, I haven't heard anyone say that businesses shouldn't have the right to fly any flag, confederate or Mexican.

It has been flown at some schools in place of the American flag for Cinco De Mayo and illegally flown over a US Post Office in California. It's not a daily thing now that I know of, but it has happened.
