June 23, 201511 yr Obviously the flag shouldn't be on government buildings. But it should be a state issue. If a moron individual wants to represent it , it shouldn't be outlawed. Allow them to be an idiot it's their American right.
June 23, 201511 yr I don't have a problem with folks decorating their cars or homes with it. I think that should be allowed. It's their property. 100% agree. I may not agree with what it symbolizes. But you can't outlaw symbols. But the government should be smart enough to separate itself from it.
June 23, 201511 yr Author I don't have a problem with folks decorating their cars or homes with it. I think that should be allowed. It's their property. I wonder was there an uproar when The Dukes of Hazard came out with the General Lee sporting the flag? No way today the car could be named that or have that flag on it.
June 23, 201511 yr I wonder was there an uproar when The Dukes of Hazard came out with the General Lee sporting the flag? No way today the car could be named that or have that flag on it. I think it could of it was showing a true picture of the time it was trying to tell a story about. There are things that were on TV 10 years ago or even today I bet that the PC police won't allow in the future.

There are things that were on TV 10 years ago or even today I bet that the PC police won't allow in the future. I get that, what happened that suddenly made the Confederate Flag off limits? The Confederate Flag has been under attack for at least 20 years, did no one care about it or think it was offensive before that?
June 23, 201511 yr Please don't throw stones on 180 change course when president Obama was against gay marriage as well as Hillary Clinton until 2012. Who cares why the change now if you didn't before. You missed my point. I was not faulting the governor for doing a 180, which, by the way, doesn't bother me. It shows flexible thinking. Where I fault the governor is that she was disingenuous when she justified flying the rebel flag because, as she explained at a gubernatorial debate, the business community didn't complain. (Forget the fact that a sizable portion of S.C.'s citizens had complained for decades.) So now that the business community (Walmart, for instance) is distancing itself from the Stars and Bars, she evidently sees a need to do likewise. I guess for Gov. Haley, money trumps principle. What else is new.
June 23, 201511 yr I get that, what happened that suddenly made the Confederate Flag off limits? The Confederate Flag has been under attack for at least 20 years, did no one care about it or think it was offensive before that? Yes. It's always been offensive. South Carolina just never cared.
June 23, 201511 yr Author Yes. It's always been offensive. South Carolina just never cared. Nah...it must not have been that offensive...a lot of people offended by it today voted for these guys...
June 23, 201511 yr Nah...it must not have been that offensive...a lot of people offended by it today voted for these guys... Lots of things change in 23 years. 23 years before Clinton-Gore a lot people voted for George Wallace ("segregation now, segregation tomorrow, segregation forever ") who would not have done so in 1992.
June 23, 201511 yr Author Lots of things change in 23 years. 23 years before Clinton-Gore a lot people voted for George Wallace ("segregation now, segregation tomorrow, segregation forever ") who would not have done so in 1992. That's my question...what changed it in the last 23 years? Bill Clinton the self professed first "Black President" used this imagery to get elected, what happened to cause this symbol to become taboo since then? PS. same rednecks that voted for Wallace wouldn't have softened their stance in a mere 23 years.
June 23, 201511 yr If one is going to be upset or offended about a flag flying over a state capitol, shouldn't one begin with Mississippi?
June 23, 201511 yr Nah...it must not have been that offensive...a lot of people offended by it today voted for these guys... Totally fair cop — they did whatever it took to get votes, just like George Wallace.
June 23, 201511 yr Author Totally fair cop — they did whatever it took to get votes, just like George Wallace. I don't think they were going for the same vote as Wallace :lol2: If a Republican had done this it would be trotted out every election cycle to this day :lol2:
June 23, 201511 yr I get that, what happened that suddenly made the Confederate Flag off limits? The Confederate Flag has been under attack for at least 20 years, did no one care about it or think it was offensive before that? I'll take a stab at it. Progress?

Highly doubtful, says the Washington Post. What those Clinton-Gore Confederate flag buttons say about politics in 2015 - The Washington Post
