June 25, 201511 yr While I do not agree with the flag, it is not our choice. We are not residents of South Carolina. We all indeed have our opinions but it is not our choice to make. With that logic, the Civil Rights Act and the Federalization of National Guard units to desegregate were wrong. After all, we weren't citizens of those states. Let's be real. Right has no boundaries or such limits. Particularly on a message board. :thumb:

Seems you are in the camp of "Freedom of Speech as long as I agree with it. "

June 25, 201511 yr Right is an opinion. With your logic, those who think the flag is OK are as "right" as you are. Seems you are in the camp of "Freedom of Speech as long as I agree with it. " No. You are not comprehending the basic facts. I am only speaking of the flag on the capitol grounds. Nothing else. This flag is not about heritage. It was raised by segregationists as an act of rebellion vs. the Federal Government because they did not want Blacks and Whites to mix. If it were heritage it would have appeared before 1962. It is about blatant, systematic, intentional, government assisted racism. Today it is still flying over a state capitol. I don't care about Dukes of Hazard or license plates or even memorial statutes. It is fine if the flag flies at Perryville Battlefield. I am talking about the flag flying on the grounds of the State Capitol of South Carolina. It's not about freedom of speech. One flag, one place, one time is all I have spoken about. :ohbrother: :walk:
June 25, 201511 yr Those that think the flag is okay are stupid. And that is a fact. I specifically said I am not OK with the flag. I am not a resident of South Carolina, therefore, I have no say in whether it comes down or not. I have an opinion but no real say.

While we have opinions, we have no say in whether it stays or comes down. That is a fact. Sorry, I'm a member of the human race. That qualifies me to speak. Still haven't heard too many mention the history of this particular flag and why it must stay up. Just hear a lot of dribble about side issues (Dukes of Hazzard, not a citizen, heritage, banning other things). Wonder if there will be anyone to defend that flag based on the true reason it is there.

I pointed out that we have no say in whether it comes down or not, big difference. As far as why it's there, that may have been the original reason, what is the reason in, let's say, the last 10-15 years. Not your opinion but a stated reason by the legislature. I don't know.

The reason the last 10-15 years is that they still don't care how the flag makes black people feel in the 21st Century. That much is clear.

You may be correct PP92, but where's the proof? I mean, black legislators voted to keep the flag. Not trying to be flippant. I would really like to know why they didn't get rid of it before now if it is so offensive. I understand how it is offensive but I think people give crap like that too much power. It's like the hateful comments I hear from whites and blacks about my daughters. I refuse to let it have power over me. It's mind over matter, I don't mind what the stupid, hateful opinion is, so it doesn't matter. :thumb:

Many voted to move it in order to win that vote, knowing that they could not win a vote to remove it.
