Indiana All Stars 83 Kentucky All Stars 80

For years the King of the Bluegrass and LIT were the only major events in season. Now the Catholic tournament is huge, plus other big in-season events around the state. Mix in the internet where you can watch live games and these kids get plenty of exposure. Add to all that the change in talent in Kentucky and recruiting at UK/UL and very few of these kids are going to be playing at the major college level.

If I've seen them often in the season and they aren't a future Cat or Card, what is my incentive to go on a random Friday night in June?

This game should be played no more than 2 weeks after the state tournament has ended. Most High School teams are already playing summer ball in preparation for the upcoming season when the game is played and interest in last years players is down as programs are focusing on the future. Not to mention the big name players from the previous year now belong to college coaches.

Fix this and fix the fact that tryout's are meaningless as the roster is pre-determined and you will get a bigger turn out for the fans and a more talented roster for the state.

But AAU, now that is big deal nowadays. What a pity, and it's not going to change for the better, either.

I can't believe JaQualis only played 3 minutes. I saw on twitter that he has gone home and isn't making the trip to Indiana.

Admitting I have a personal bias towards the kid because I've coached him, but no way that kid doesn't get 15+ minutes if you're trying to win.

Yes, blame AAU.

For everything.

It needs to be in the Spring.

Definitely agree there. I'd like to see the series continue, but it needs major tweaks. Playing it in April makes the most sense.

I would've given Matlock more mins than the Patterson kid. And that's nothing against him but you have to play your best to win.

On the Indiana side, I was surprised KJ Walton didn't play more or start.

When I was growing up, the Derby Festival Classic was a big game where KY-IN Stars played the U.S. Stars. I believe the game was the weekend before Derby. Would this date make it make plausible to play the KY - IN series? It might help Kentucky but what about Indiana?

Doesn't seem to be a problem with the Indiana team.

If you shoot 5-26 from 3 point land and 31% overall you won't beat many teams.

I just assumed he was injured. That's interesting

The derby classic is still played.

Did he go to practice? Did he hustle if so? Did he not do what he was to do when on the court? Always a coaches decision on why to play a kid and im guessing the coach wanted to win. The kid does not get his minutes so he takes his ball and goes home? Maybe part of the problem with this game. Too many superstars to find minutes for? Bummer for the kid, coach and KY Allstar team.

I'm with you. I understand playing it in summer in the past but times have changed and it needs to be played much earlier.

Is there a link for this one online? I was there last night and wanted to see this one too.
