May 28, 201511 yr Mrs Purple Haze....my thoughts and prayers go out to you as I read your request in another thread about looking for the pics for PH's head stone. Got me to thinking....... I have told Mrs OTB only one thing I want at my funeral.... 1.....no ties.......on me or anyone there......send me out as I lived.....casual. Mrs OTB told me that if I ever put plastic flowers on her grave, she will haunt me .... My great uncle arranged for the pall bearers to all be fitted for tuxes..... Anyone else have any?
May 28, 201511 yr Same no tie stipulation for me...wore one at work for way too long. I've picked out a song or two that says to certain people what I'd want to say to them. Gotta have socks on (I don't know if that's standard or not but it will be for me, and no I don't sleep in my socks) A Rook card that has been in my billfold for 19 years has to be placed in my shirt pocket. :lol2: I actually have a file on a thumb drive with it all planned out...I did it a year or so ago when...well things didn't look real bright for me.
May 28, 201511 yr I don't have any requests. I figure I won't know the difference and it doesn't matter to me if they dump me in a Hefty bag and throw me in Tug River. I have told my wife that I want whatever will please her and the family, and if a certain song, or speaker, or whatever will be comforting to them, then go for it.
May 28, 201511 yr My dad had a list of things that he wanted for his funeral, including whom he wanted for pall bearers, but told no one about it. We found it months afterwards. This list is a great idea, but make sure that a few people know that it exists and where.
May 28, 201511 yr My dad had a list of things that he wanted for his funeral.Mom does also. It's on her laptop. I go in and see if it's been updated (time stamp) every month or so and copy it onto a flash drive if it has. Read it once years ago when things were looking bad. Haven't in a while.
May 28, 201511 yr Started years ago with a letter. In it, I lay out everything my wife needs to know from finances, to insurances, to funeral plans, to pall bearers. I update it every few years. Having been in my line of work for 30 years I have found one of the greatest gifts a spouse can give another is the gift of not sitting in a Funeral Home and wondering what their loved one wanted done. There is nothing greater than having it all detailed so that decision doesn't have to weigh on their minds during all the other things hurting them right then. If your spouse won't talk about death, write it up and leave it in a letter so everything is said, outlined and ready for them. Just tell them where to go to get the envelope in the case of emergency.
May 28, 201511 yr I want to go out like a viking...put me in a canoe, set me on fire, and push me out to sea.
May 28, 201511 yr Bury me upside down... Edited May 28, 201511 yr by Colonels_Wear_Blue Capitalization
May 28, 201511 yr Cut off my head and feet and bury them like the thoroughbred I am. :lol2: Honestly, I have made no official request although I am an organ donor. Hopefully there will be something worth harvesting. I expressed my desire to my wife to be cremated, and I don't care what she does with the ashes...but I will try to think of something annoying. Afterwards, I want the wake to be a party...no sadness...life has been great to me!
May 28, 201511 yr I have requested to have Rusted Root's "Send me on my Way" integrated in to the service. Also putting aside $5,000 for a blowout get together with family, friends, and strangers to come get rowdy and reminisce.
May 28, 201511 yr Naked - came in that way, going out that way. Hopefully the casket will be closed:eek:
May 28, 201511 yr I have requested to have Rusted Root's "Send me on my Way" integrated in to the service. Also putting aside $5,000 for a blowout get together with family, friends, and strangers to come get rowdy and reminisce. That's a great idea. I put my list together soon after my father passed away suddenly and my mother, brother and I were left to put everything together. We had some help from my uncle which made it easier, but I hadn't realized the decisions that needed to be made. I'm not looking to have anything special. Since I'm not from around here, I have no special connection to any cemetery and (at least right now) prefer cremation. I have set money aside to cover travel expenses for some friends and family from home...no one specific, just a few thousand $'s for those who might want to attend and can't afford it, as this was an issue for some folks for my father's funeral.
May 28, 201511 yr I've told my family that I want a ton of Jimmy Buffet played, as well as weird and random songs. Like some Bollywood music and things like that. And they know what to do with my ashes.
