Mercer is getting a great coach. I've known coach B for around a decade. Excellent coach, even better man. I'm excited for him to be able to go home. Good luck coach B.

As I read the article I can't help but think about the rush to judgment seen so often in football commentary today. Coach Buchanan weathered down seasons during his tenure. It is a testament to him and to the people in Mason County that they stayed with him during those down times. It also should make us all think for a bit about how we judge coaches.

 

Does anyone doubt how good a coach Dave Buchanan is? He had great success with deep playoff runs that fell just short of state championships. Yet he also had teams go 1-9 and 2-8 during his tenure. Lesson learned ... sometimes an excellent coach can have a team that posts a bad record. It isn't just about the coaching. You have to have the staff, the players and the commitment too. We all (myself included) should keep this in mind as we pass our too often too quick judgments on coaches.

 

With that thought in mind, everyone in Mercer County needs to support Coach Buchanan as he goes about his work. Hope for great success and don't be easily shaken from supporting the journey to success. There will almost surely be challenging times. Stay committed. Keep working. Do all that and I believe everyone will look back someday at the end of Coach Buchanan's tenure and be just as pleased and proud of the program as the people in Mason County are as they look back now.

Coach B was the best hire they could have gotten...he will do wonders for the team and community. Sounds like MC's patience paid off.

Amen Reason! It is time for all of the administration and the community to rally as one behind Coach B. We all know their will be ups and downs and they have to push through the low points to reap the successes. They need to look at the big picture, they need to unite and let the program prosper.

 

The pressure now is on the supporters of the school within the community! No more excuses, support the program!

I am proud to name myself a friend of Dave Buchanan. My avatar occasionally babysat for Trosper, Emma and John Combs back in the day. Probably no accident that Coach B - a great family man - just happens to have a great family.

 

Good luck at Mercer County. Looks like I'll be following the Titans, as well as Centre football for the next few years.:thumb:
