I was never a fan of the Dixie Chicks before this lady said what she said.

 

Overall, I'm not a fan of celebrities telling us their political views. They're free to do so, but I'd prefer they just do their thing.

 

I don't want to see Clint Eastwood talking to an empty chair in front of the world. Just direct movies.

I was with you until this. I was spending a lot of time in Europe when all this was going on. I firsthand faced the backlash of being an American, especially in Germany, because of the liberal news feeds that they receive and the resulting perceptions regarding the war. Despite this, I did not turn my back on my country of its President to appease the locals. I don't care if they were man or woman, but to turn one's back and be disloyal to the country, its President and its people outside of the confines of our borders...just like some members of congress did as a matter of fact...is disgusting. And, I have exercised my right not to listen to them since.

Kudos to her for sticking with her opinion. People are too soft these days.

 

Her opinion is one thing...how and especially where she expressed it is another. Failure to admit a mistake or even to recognize one was made (look at the impact) is stubborness and/or stupidity.

Just further evidence of how the arrogant, repugnant little twerp didn't even understand her audience...she was in London! Great Britain was our number one allie in the Gulf War.

 

And I think it is narrow to blame the war on George Bush...it should be blamed on the dysfunctional and ineffectual United Nations. However, that wouldn't win any votes for Dems.

Absolutely, without doubt and unquestionably the answer to that is yes, they would have and I would suspect probably gotten it even worse. If Brad Paisley or Vince Gill, etc. would have said that, people would have been calling for their hanging. I was going to use Toby Keith as an example, but we all know Toby Keith would have NEVER muttered anything like that and actually had a professional and personal battle of "philosophies" over the incident with the Dixie Chicks.

I loved the chicks , I thought they were very talented and listened to them a bunch . Bought their CD's . And if she would stick to making music and skip the politics I'd buy it again . But that aint happening now . She must be happy being professionally irrelevant . I like she stood up for beliefs , its her right , its mine to wonder they have been for 10 years .

Personally, I don't follow any performer who uses their platform to push their political views or agenda. So, I'm not a fan of standing in front of the mic and spewing your political slant, regardless if it jibes with mine or not. Just perform, because you're a perfomer. I'll read or watch something else if I want a political diatribe. And to be honest, I liked some of their stuff before all of the fallout. I'm all for equality and rights and even enjoy music and movies along that line, but keep your politics to yourself. If we want to know your views, we will ask. If I go to my accountant, I don't want to know his/her stance on the war in Iraq. If I go get my car worked on, I don't want to know how the mechanic feels about the president. If I ask, that's different.

 

If I want a political opinion, I'll go to this site, under the proper forum, and read.

 

I'm with Doc here 100%. Shut your mouth unless it's to speak your lines or sing your song and do what I and millions of others paid you to do...entertain me. If one wants to spout off their political views, do so on a political talk show or quit making movies/albums and run for office.

I think there's a difference in how some approach it. I know when I listen to Public Enemy, or John Mayer, or the freakin' Beatles that some of what they are gonna express in their music is political. And odd as it sounds, I don't have a problem with that. I know that's coming. However, what she did, wasn't that. If that makes any sense. I don't care what Cheryl Crow thinks about politics apart from something in her music. I just want to hear "all I want to do is have some fun". It's kinda like Tiger Woods for me. I don't care how many chicks you screwed outside the parameter of marriage. Just hit good golf shots.

I can absolutely see it. In the most basic, simple form, when you buy a movie ticket or a cd, you are supporting that artist financially. Now if one person doesn't spend their money, then that $9.00 for a movie ticket or $20.00 for a cd doesn't mean much at all. If 3 or 4 million do the same though, then it make a big difference.

 

Now, personally I don't normally let a difference in political philosophies keep me from buying something. However, there is a point in which I will get a little feed up and say enough is enough and not buy a product. Someone mentioned Sean Penn...perfect example. I'm not going to go see a Sean Penn movie because he is absolutely inseparable from his illogical left wing communists politics. And he's just so unlikeable to boot. I WILL, however, watch reruns of "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" time after time, being one of my favorites.:thumb:
