What if The Chicks had performed a song called "Bush stinks, war sucks", and not made any other political scene?

 

Neil Young made a song calling for impeachment but nobody knew because his target audience was not the country music crowd. It reminded Neil "Southern Man don't need him around anyhow."

I have only been in there once, but I got the impression he treats a new customer kind of like a new brother-in-law....he's going to test you out. All in all, it was good natured.

So she still believes in what she said. Good for her. I can respect a person sticking to their beliefs, especially when faced with the scrutiny she endured. Didn't agree with her then, don't agree with her now, but respect.

Answer here it seems....also it seems this 'not ready to make nice' theme comes up about every 3 years or so. Not a bad strategy probably....

I guess I'm just a different sort of person. I don't choose my dentist or doctor based upon their political views, nor do I avoid any because I know their political views. If I want to be entertained, I will choose to see the movie or entertainer regardless of their politics, even if they tell me about them.

 

Oh...and I'd eat a good oyster po' boy even if there were guns hanging on racks behind the counter.

 

 

The difference is that entertainers have a microphone in front of thousands of people with the press covering them. Your dentist or doctor does not. In addition, they represent the USA as American entertainers. It was wrong to use that media to spout political views that disrespect the leader of our country. They are paid to entertain.

 

 

Of course, she did have that right. I was glad to see the country music industry retaliate by hitting her where it hurts. Prior to the incident, I loved the Dixie Chicks, but their statements made the band part of who they are, which was ugly IMO.

So, once they're part of the entertainment machinery they are no longer allowed to be human beings and have an opinion on what goes on in the world around them? That seems silly to me.

I've never gotten the "it's OK to criticize the POTUS if you're on US soil but if you're not..."

 

You either show respect to the POTUS or you do not. Why do we care where you are when you do? It's not like those damn foreigners can't read the same quote if it was made in Kansas City.

From what I've read it seems like everyone agrees entertainers have the right to make their opinions known. However, they must also recognize that exercising that right may cost them some support and corresponding income. Just as we give entertainers the right, their customers should have the same right to disagree. Seems to me many on here have said they just don't want to have to listen to it during a performance that they've paid good money to see.

I don't think anyone has said this. However, the public has the option to make them irrelevant which is exactly what happened. This was a costly opine for her and her bandmates.
