Keeping Secrets from Your Significant Other

Featured Replies

I try not to sweat the little things, stuff that happened prior to us being married do not really matter in the grand scheme. If you don't trust one another it really doesn't matter what you do and don't tell them.

And I never said I wasn't attracted to them, just that there was nothing to it. I firmly believe love is like war, you should always have an exit strategy. You never use it unless you have to.

Exit strategy?

Yeah, I'm confused about that as well. Seems counter-productive to the whole point of a relationship.

I used to have a buddy who swore it was best to always have a reason in your back pocket to break up with someone, just in case something better came along, you'd have your reason. I never really believed that. But I guess him and hotsnakes had the same belief.

I think he got rid of that philosophy awhile ago, happily married for two years.

True. It is not really germane to the value of a relationship you forged, so why throw a kink in it. Honesty is only as good as the person who takes it. If your partner is obsessed with knowing who you drunkingly hooked up with 15 years ago while on spring break, your partner may have other issues.

I must first say that honesty is always the best policy, but there are several things that I elect to just not give full disclosure in regards to. Not being dishonest, just better off not going there.

Dear Abby: I’m in my 40s and my boyfriend of three years is 12 years older. We are in love and our relationship is great. He travels for work and lives in another state, so he flies in to see my daughter and me every other week. Because he is older, he uses Viagra, and it’s kept at my place in a drawer. I assumed that’s where it was always kept.

Abby, when he left for his trip yesterday, he took his Viagra with him! He says he grabbed the bottle without thinking and that I’m overreacting. The rest of his things are kept in his travel bag, so it’s not like he just gathered up all of his pills. They were the only ones. Now he’s upset with me because “I don’t trust him.”

Can you help me get my thinking straight? I caught him lying about something when we first started dating, so he’s not all squeaky clean like he acts.

Dear Suspicious: Unless your boyfriend was prescribed the Viagra for a condition other than ED, I’d say you have a right to be suspicious. Because his little blue pills were kept apart from his other medications, it took special effort for him to pack them. Talk with him further because he may have been contemplating a “party of one” during his travels and not have been looking for adventure.

The only thing I have ever kept secret from MrsC is presents that I plan to give her and don't want her to know about. Yet.

This stuff really is easy.

1. She always knows who I'm with, where I'm at, and what I'm doing, and I know the same for her.

2. The past is the past.

3. Hold her, touch her, kiss her, tell her you love her all the time. Not just when you want to have sex. In fact if you do that, you don't have to worry about sex, because she will want to.

4. A relationship is a partnership between to people to love, serve, and share.

5. Folks if you have to hide it from your partner, then you are not partners. It usually means you have no faith in yourself or your partner or both.

Exit strategy? Wow - what a horrible way to go through life.

This.

I use the three word approach on all questions. Yep, nope, and "I don't know." Been married 21 years and still counting.

Girlfriend and I have been looking for a dog. She found one she really liked and I agreed. I asked how much and she said $500. Then said she already made the $200 deposit.

How much do you think that means we still need to pay? If you're like me, you're wrong.

^What type of dog is it?

Ummmm...expensive?:idunno::lol2:

Ummmm...expensive?:idunno::lol2:

Yes it is....And that's not including the $500+ that's likely from the various supplies (crate, toys, food, etc.) and initial vet bill.

We paid $350 for our dog. Imagine my surprise when the total initial expense approached $1k after vet, supplies, etc. :lol2:

I've always heard the rule of 7. Whatever the female says add 7, whatever the male says subtract 7. :idunno:

I've always heard multiply the woman's by 3 and divide the man's by 3.

I can't think of any secrets I am keeping. Of course any past relationships would be a long-time ago, and she never really asked or was interested. I believe she would tell me whatever I wanted to know as well. Otherwise, there have been times in the past where she threw something(s) away of mine that I was hoarding, and I felt betrayed. We got past that, and it hasn't happened again....I don't think.
