If this is true it basically wipes out 7 on 7 for some teams. We would not allow our players to play without Helments. It's time for the true football people of this state to take a stand against this. Their going to wipe out our sport for it's all said and done with.

I thought July belonged to football and June was basketball's?

If this is true it STUPID.

Might as well just wear flags. If its not the heat its the concussions and so on. The summer practices are all ready cut short because school starting earlier. Then the dead period. When do these kids have time to practice and get there bodies prepared to play.

Am I missing something?? Practices don't start until July 15th (or so) and I'm pretty sure there was at least 3 days of practice (acclimation) required before you could put helmets on. So I really don't see where something is different or has changed from years past. I can't see anyone doing a 7 on 7 with another team during the first few days of practice anyway.

 

I've always felt football starts too early here in KY.....many states don't start until August 1st.

I have not heard this....no helmets before July 20. We had our Advisory meeting at the KHSAA office last month for football and this was not discussed. Maybe I missed something, certainly possible, but I don't think this is true. To be clear, it is my understanding we can be in helmets in June, and beginning July 10.

You can, but you are almost begging for concussions.

This is what I'm hearing from two good sources that this what the higher ups are going to demand. I'm sure you will hear more about this in the next coming weeks.

 

As far as 7 on 7 without Helments the worest collision I ever saw was down in Florida when two kids going after a post throw and collided head to head. It was ugly both of em never played again.

So this means McCracken County has to wait until July 18th to go full pads this year?

 

This would be silly if true & playing any type of organized football Without helmets is just dumb in my opinion. I tell 1st & 2nd grade parents all the time that full equipment tackle football is way safer than their kids playing flag simply because of the less protected head collision factor and those kids at that age can't hit like the older ones anyhow.

Aren't all those high level recruiting camps 7-7 played without helmets?
