No Helmets till July 22

My wife tells me to shut up when I bring this exact point up, haha, shes a band director.

It's the same. Kids need band. Kids need football. Unless schools are going to hire and require more English and math they need to quit talking out of both sides if their mouth.

Not sure what PE looks like now, but when I was in school it was a big waste of time. Also given that I know a whole lot of PE teachers who look like they are more interested in coaching than teaching, it probably hasn't changed much.

Buddy they put in a 12-18 hour day while people like you get on here judging their accomplishments...I'd worry about coaching more too!

No one in education today can not produce in the classroom. Just isn't acceptable, but I am also of the theory a good coach is a good teacher.

In the end, the coaches on the advisory board let us all down. They allowed yet another terrible decision be pushed down our throats with out us knowing. It's sad when supposed "football" people make bad football decisions.

I am a member of the Advisory Committee. We have no power. That would be the delegate assembly and The Board of Control.

I have been open with what I think and why. I think everyone has heard enough of that.

Although the advisory has no power, I do try to listen to the coaches and at a minimum share their concerns/thoughts. Anyone that will put their real name with their comments, where they coach, etc. I would welcome your email at [email protected].

Thank you-

David (aka Chief Smoke) does the best job possible in his role on the Advisory Committee. He (and one other in particular) send out emails frequently getting input from other coaches prior to their meetings. It is my belief that he was as surprised as the rest of us about the helmets decision. Appeared to me that the BOC sometimes makes decisions contrary to the advice of the Advisory Committee based on pressure put on them from outside sources (if you want to read "political" into that, then that is your right).

I have been trying to keep up with this thread but may have missed something. Can someone clerify. Has this already passed and is now set in stone or is it going up to vote? If so when does it go to vote? If it goes to vote, will it go into affect this year?

I would like to see them eliminate June and July to give kids time to be kids.

Eliminate the Bye week.

Eliminate First 2 rounds of the playoffs.

Start practice last week of July.

Allow teams to go into camp and work with other teams (7 on 7 - Teams able to scrimmage - O-line work)

I dont understand why everyone gets excited about 7 on 7. When what teams are trying to get done could get done in a week by allowing teams to camp together for the purpose of getting better.

I'm still scratching my head on the priority thing.

I don't have coaches in the building....Still manage to get things done.

I dont' have a booster club.....Still manages to do it.

I dont have in school weights....We do it after school.

This is a school problem and my problem. I shouldn't have to drag my problems into this, should I? I feel like some coaches that agree with this NO JUNE or JULY 10-22 are dragging their problems into this and THAT'S NOT DOING IT THE RIGHT WAY!

I enjoy 7 on 7. It helps our D more then it helps our O. It makes the kids compete.

I get JUNE, but Let's not give up Juy 10-22 and give BBALL more opportunity. We are throwing this away. We are going back to the 80's when football in this state was VERY MEDIOCRE compared to Tenn.

Does this basically eliminate 7 on 7 or will 7 on 7 be done without helmets?

Are the coaches on here comfortable doing 7 on 7 without helmets?

No

7on7 without helmets

I have 1 thing to say.

Regardless of numbers. How many D1 basketball players compared to D1 football players are produced each yr from ky. Who is getting cheated then.

Joe Prince just absolutely nailed it.

Agree on all except finals weekend. Keep it 1st weekend and just move the start date. Hard to make finals games with Thanksgiving going on all that week.

...he was so spot on. There is a reason guys like he have done it for 30 years. People might want to listen. Agree. AGREE. All day long snd twice on Sundays.

3rd We did all the 7 on 7 in June, workouts in July, camps in July (actually could go to camp and practice against another team), weight meets, etc.

Hmm! I thought going against other teams in camp would result in a scrimmage, Correct?

I know a lot of schools are not worried because they will just go to a camp and scrimmage other schools to get ready. This goes against Bylaws, I love people when they talk about doing things "right" and they don't do things the right way within bylaws.

Why should we limit activities for our kids? Open it up. If you want to give your players time off, do it. The only reason coaches don't is because other people are working. If some people are proponents of time off then let that be what your program does. Those that don't agree, let them work. Do what you think is best for your program and stop trying to push your regulations on the rest of us.

We already have a 2+ week dead period that is longer than most states. Why do we need more time off? I don't get the nonsense about the bye week. I think everyone should have a bye. If you are truly concerned about player safety why aren't coaches giving them a week off to rest during the season instead of playing 11 or more games in a row. Some people are talking out of both sides of their mouth on the issue.
