We all want football to be the best it can be, but we have different approaches and priorities.

If someone truly wants to make football better in their community, approach a school board member and/or administrator in your community and ask for these 3 things:

1- Adequate assistant coach pay, fully funded coaching staffs, and as many coaches are teachers as possible in the building.

2- In school weight classes so kids can work and do other sports after school. (Yes, Highlands does not need this, most programs do.)

3- Fully funded football so your kids are in safe equipment, quality cloth, and the playing/practice surface is safe.

If you truly want to put your energy into making KY HS Football better, here is where to put your focus, in my opinion. It is incredibly difficult to be good in football in most KY HS's without the 3 things above.

Until those 3 things change across the board, it will be a struggle.

I still don't see why this stuff you mentioned above makes us not practice in June. Hell this is where a get my backup or freshman QB ready. Smh.

I just don't think people are motivated anymore.

Highlands lifts during school?

Highlands lifts during school?

No, they do not. But, it helps a lot at other schools.

It doesn't . I just think we are fighting the wrong battles. I think we are better served focusing on the battles that matter the most.

Those are things controlled at the local level.

We are talking state advisory decisions that coaches must abide by.

I support all those things but man it's apples and oranges.

Those things will come when coaches leave schools or refuse to take jobs unless they are offered... It a coaches union forms and walks off the job.

I misunderstood.

I don't really care who it helps or hurts on the foootball field -this is an awful idea for an academic institution. If schools can sacrifice an hour of instructional time every day then the day is too long.

There are plenty of benefits to football, but it is still an extracirricular activity. Mixing it into the academic day will not help further the education of children.

Do you feel the same way about band, choral music and art being included in the school day?

How is it any different than advanced PE?

My wife tells me to shut up when I bring this exact point up, haha, shes a band director.

We could probably have a healthy debate about each of these and there would be merits as to whether they should or shouldn't be included an academic curriculum. In the end they probably are closer to having a football practice during the academic day than they are to learning math.

:D

Not sure what PE looks like now, but when I was in school it was a big waste of time. Also given that I know a whole lot of PE teachers who look like they are more interested in coaching than teaching, it probably hasn't changed much.

Weight class is for strength training. It is not additional sports specific practice. At our school , music and the spring play, etc. are a big deal. They practice after school several times a week, in addition to the class during school. If our guys didn't have weight class, they would have to give up several opportunities like that and playing other sports to lift weights.

If PE and Advanced PE are acceptable, I would think strength training is as well. It is another form of Physical Education.

It is like every other class, including math, English, science, etc. in this regards.....if you have a good instructor, it benefits the kids.

In the end, the coaches on the advisory board let us all down. They allowed yet another terrible decision be pushed down our throats with out us knowing. It's sad when supposed "football" people make bad football decisions.

Who are these coaches? Just curious. What is their school setting? Just wondering how they are seeing things?

Their names were posted on the list serve today. I already deleted the email but someone else can post the list.
