Thanks. The connotation of "elitist" can vary. Wanted to see what yours was.

For the record I do not look down on parents who send their child to a school in order to participate in varsity athletics. High school is more than just classroom work. It's about personal development as well and high school athletics is a great teacher.

 

I got a great education in the classroom but I also got a great education on the field. My football coach reinforced the concept of "accountability" that has stuck with me to this day. I didn't necessarily get that in the classroom.

CovCath is sitting on a pipeline of talent. Greatest Dynasty Ever? , please. It is kind of embarrassing for a CCH fan. Most, if not all that I know are happy taking one game at a time and hoping for another run.

 

PS--I am not so sure they are ranked #1 next year in the 9th. Yes, I am aware of the Frosh class but I believe the region as a whole will be down and NCC, Holmes, CCH or Cooper could win it. Losing Schuh, Theobald, and Romes are not so easily replaced. Schuh and Romes provided the original toughness brought by coach Ruthsatz and CVH is now carrying that out as well. The Heppler kid hasn't played a whole lot this year but certainly has the body.

I agree with MTG's comments. You go to a high school for the total package, with sports being one slice of the pie.

 

I also agree that many other schools have the same "good" problems of too many good prospects.

 

If a player is truly driven by playing basketball, however, I could see him shopping around to find another quality high school where he could play and contribute on the varsity level. If it is that important to him.

Is CCH becoming the Moeller of football from years past? And isn't the rule now that you have to live in Ohio in order to participate in sports if you are a student at an Ohio high school? A student that lives in Kentucky is not eligible to participate in sports at an Ohio school, unless they would move to Ohio,And the same for a student that chooses to go to a Kentucky high school would have to move to Kentucky if they want to participate in sports? So it's safe to say that theses 2 from Cincinnati that have been mentioned several times will be moving to Kentucky. That is if we are talking about the kids coming from across the big river or are they just coming form the other side of the Licking. Did something change? I understand the rules to be: To play in Ohio, you have to live in Ohio. To play in KY, you can live on the moon.

Partially correct.

 

Ohio has a residency requirement.

 

KY does not.

Yes they have a lot of talent in the pipeline so to speak. There may be some kids end up at Holy Cross or St Henry, but I doubt any go to Beechwood. There will also be others who simply decide to play intramural basketball, and then play other sports competitively. I know many of these 7th and 8th graders, and can say there are a number who are very talented in other sports as well. I think with the success and excitement that is going on at Cov Cath, the boys will still want to be a part of it, even if they do not play for Ruthsatz.

 

The pipeline is very well stocked at the 8th grade level. Pius, St. Joes and IHM....those three in particular have some big and talented kids and some outstanding guards as well. I don't believe any are headed to a school other than CCH. I think the only question is whether some remain multi-sport kids or focus on bball. I've heard the kid from Cardinal Pacelli is very good as well.

8th grade CCH talent is deep and big. Devin, Fleek, Coldiron, Thelen, Stallman, McGinnis, Jackson, Bishop, Becker, Trojani, Shue, Burke, just to name a few.

Back to back regional titles. Return a D1 player and other varsity contributors. A very successful JV team made up sophomores and freshmen only. An undefeated very deep frosh team. A pipeline that is being discussed all the way down to the 8th grade.

 

Why is everyone so afraid to look at the facts and see what lies ahead. The potential for a dynasty is real. It's not arrogant. It's not setting the program up for failure. It's looking at the results the boys in the CCH program have achieved and extrapolating that out through their high school careers. CCH supporters need to embrace and enjoy it, not downplay it.

 

I do enjoy the comparisons of CCH success being on the verge of a dynasty to the attractiveness of a female Bruce Jenner. LOL.

CovCath has done a great job with winning the state title last year and now winning the region again, but the future has yet to be written and having this great pipeline people are talking about doesn't always translate to success at the varsity level. They have had these great frosh & JV teams before and it didn't produce 9th region titles. So, for me, I want to see what this team does this year and for the next few years and if they win more region titles and get far in the state tourney, then it's possible to talk about a "dynasty", but as of right now the answer is no on the dynasty talk.

I started it. They've won a title. 2nd region in a row. Mega talent from the Sophomore class down to 7th grade.... Seems like being on the VERGE of something incredible to me.
