Is CovCath on the verge of the Greatest 9th Region Dynasty Ever?

Featured Replies

Nothing against the 9th region and KY basketball in general but building a GCL power that is known statewide in Ohio goes a lot further (if Scott truly wants to coach at the next level) than any success in Kentucky.

St. X is a lot like CCH except has nearly triple the enrollment. Hard to say it wouldn't be an upgrade of some type.

As a Holmes supporter, would you like him to stay or go?

Coaching at Saint Xavier would probably be a big pay raise too.

I don't know enough about the Ohio paygrade to comment on that, but with the right guy there, St X is a bigger gig than Covcath. Scott is doing great things with what he has at Covcath but at St X the resources would be unlimited on top of having just as much, if not more talent to pull from in the Cincy area from the feeder schools.

I support all NKY teams, not just Holmes. I have ties to Holmes so there is a connection there, but I honestly get tired of hearing Holmes is the only team I support.

To answer your question, I would like to see Scott do whatever is best for his family. If that means staying at Covcath, great. It only elevates the level of play here in NKY because he is a really good coach and his teams are always going to be a factor not only in this area, but at the statewide level as well.

If that means going to Cincinnati, I would wish him the best and probably follow Cincy hoops closer because I think Cincy St X would instantly become a power in Ohio and be a must see team with all of the talent they would attract. Look at what Moeller and Lasalle have every year. I can guarantee him going to Cincy, along with Joe Fredrick, would take some of those players away.

Thanks for the response. By the way, having a favorite team is not against the law.

Until Scott desides to make a move, such as to Cincy St X, he is the coach at CCH! All this talk about he could go here he could go there, or I heard such and such school will go after such and such coach has no merit. Possibly it's wishful thinking of St X? We will never know until Scott makes am announcement. But again, until that happens, if it ever does, he is the coach at CCH.

Some people are happy where they are at and don't want or need to move. Some may not want to deal with the drama at St X, it was mentioned about the mob metality there, some may not want to deal with that.

But, all we do know is the future is very bright for CCH. They may or may not win it all again next week, it's hard for even great programs to repeat. But CCH has a chance to be in the running to win the region for the foreseeable future.

I've seen a lot of 9th region games. The order for all-time success in the 9th region is as follows:

1) Holmes

2) Highlands( not a factor the last 4-5 years)

3) Covcath

You can make a strong case for Covcath at #2 because of last years title. Before the last 10 years Highlands had an argument for first.

Then a big drop off to

4)Newport

5)Newport Catholic(usually competitive but chokes in the regionals)

6) Simon Kenton (not many trips, but they have a title)

7) Holy Cross (sporadic titles mixed in)

After this, no team even comes to mind historically.

I consider a dynasty as a "run". For example, Beechwood's run in the 90's in football. So, IMO if CCH can do well this coming week, and/or the next few years in going to the Sweet 16, go deep in the Sweet 16 over the next couple of years, that I would put them up there. If they are able to get to the title game a couple of times in the next few years, and win one or two more, IMO they have the top spot without question.

CCH had a dynasty in the late 60's and early 70's correct? 5 regional titles in a row? What was their record in the Sweet 16? Holmes has a three year run a few years ago, and the third year they won the Sweet 16. IMO this can be considered a dynasty.

How many titles does Holmes have? How many titles does Highlands have? I am not interested in viewing at all of the years of a program when I look at a dynasty.

^^^Holmes' best run that I've personally witnessed was from 05-09:

05- Region Champs-Lost in 1st Round Sweet 16

07- Region Champs- State Semi Finalist

08- Region Champs- State Runner Up

09- Region Champs- State Champion

10- Region Runner Up

13- Region Champs- State Quarter Finalist

14- Region Runner Up

15- Region Runner Up

The more I think about it, Holmes has had one hell of a run these past 11 years with 8 region title appearances and 5 championships to go with the state tournament success.

Don't let him fool ya, he loves Holmes more than I love NewCath.

This team should have repeated as State Champs. Getting blown out by Newport was an utter SHOCK!!!

Yup...Holmes had beaten Newport by double digits in the previous two meetings.

If they win region that year and get by eventual state champ Christian Co (who they beat earlier that year), in the first round, no doubt in my mind they repeat. That team was loaded with size, athleticism, and depth.

How many years you going back?

Give me a break, CC on a verge of a dynasty.....is this a serious thread.

We can look back in several years and determine if this thread was omniscient or just another foolish fun thread. Not sure why all the angst but for now Good Luck Colonels!
