KHSAA enforcement of Bylaw 27

Featured Replies

From the KHSAA:

Beginning with 2014-2015, as contained in Bylaw 27, the requirements to enter and maintain rosters, schedules and statistics will be enforced more rigorously by the KHSAA. This enforcement will subject the member schools to penalties by the Commissioner, including fines and other actions, within the constraints of Bylaw 27.

^ In other words, quit be lazy everyone or the KHSAA is going to come down on you.

If all schools do as required, the statistics that come from the process is better (which promotes the kids & schools).

Sounds like they are ready to.

I wonder what's taking so long.

Just curious...is there any language in the bylaw as to whom they are requiring/allowing to keep the stats being reported? I know often times there are statisticians from amongst the student body who keep stats, and sometimes there are adult volunteers to do it. Could there be any coat impact for this if there aren't any interested parties for keeping stats? Would forcing all of the players' parents to "take their turn in the barrel" be a solution, or would that just produce crappy stats?

I would not feel comfortable with statistics kept by parents. Johnny's numbers would be inflated (just my thought). With the number of coaches on some teams bench, I would expect 1 of them to keep the statistics.

It takes me about 10 minutes to enter stats on KHSAA. Really easy...... the idea that stats are fudged (widespread) doesn't hold water, maybe a few, they are easy to spot....we have a Dad do ours and also another person in the stands (simply because he wants to) and they hardly ever vary.

I totally agree. Plus, most parents don't know how to accurately keep statistics and would rather be watching than working. However, I think a lot of the teams who have not reported statistics are small schools who don't have a bench full of coaches. I have seen some teams with a single coach, who obviously can't be keeping stats while he is coaching. I agree with the intent of the rule, but hope the KHSAA understands the realities some of the smaller schools are facing.

Sounds like they are ready to.
