January 16, 201511 yr So the other school isn't smart enough to not schedule the game. Some adult made that decision. Why not just press the whole game and keep all 5 starters in for 32 minutes? Make it a 228 - 1 game. As I said, the person who should be suspended (if anyone) is the person who scheduled the game. There's no reason to play it. From either side. If you're going to play it, then what happens, happens.
January 16, 201511 yr When I coached a couple of middle school games last season I called off the press when we got up by 20 points. I knew we had the game won and I coached in a politically correct manner the rest of the game. If not for our PC world I'd have pressed the whole game and gone home and slept like a baby regardless of the score. Everybody is different. Some care about people's feelings when it comes to sports. Some don't. I know to turn the press off because people will start crying about sportsmanship and all that other crap. At the same time I have zero issue with any coach that doesn't care to be PC and runs the score up as much as they want to. It is what it is. Perfect. Deserves more than just 1 like.
January 16, 201511 yr I coach my son's 2nd grade team and we have been a tough team for the last 2 seasons. We were undefeated last season and we won our first game this season 48-14. We were up 27-1 at the half. I intentionally mixed my lineups up in the 2nd half to make things a little closer. It was 27-1 in the first half and 21-13 in the 2nd half. There are things you can do as a coach to minimize the embarrassment of the other kids. There's no excuse for drilling a helpless team like this guy did.
January 16, 201511 yr I don't care... The only thing I hear when I read those words: [video=youtube_share;flBqojLpAnI]

To answer your question, because of this world we live in my goal would be to get all of my bench players in double figures scoring. As a coach, I have been coached AGAINST like this a time or two. I said nothing, shook hands, told our team we need to work harder and get better. But below the surface...yep I lost some respect for the coaches that did that. No reason for it. Had a coach who did that against a very young varsity team I had a few years ago. Had his starters in and pressing even midway through the 4th quarter trying to ensure his team scored 100 points, and they were up on us about 60 points. They got their 100 points with a little over a minute left. Then he replaced the starters who were still out there. I took it...what else could I do? But what almost set me off was, as we were shaking hands, the opposing coach had the audacity to say "hey coach, we weren't trying to run the score up, just wanted to let you know".:rage: Don't wizz down my back and tell me it's raining. Personally I think it's disrespectful of the game and the other team to go out of the way to "pummel" a team that you are clearly better than. There will always be lopsided scores, no problem with that. Just don't go out of the way to make it worse that it needs to be.
January 16, 201511 yr Zero problem with the full court trap in the first half, IMO. Deuce, I somewhat agree but early in this game it HAD to be obvious the opposing team was absolutely no match. At that point I call off the press. UNLESS the coaches got together and the losing coach wanted his team to work against that defense. And I agree with others when I put my bench players in, I'm NOT going to prohibit them from scoring. The second half would be man-to-man no press. But it's hard to tell a bunch of kids NOT to play the way you taught them to play.

January 16, 201511 yr WOW... He should have started subbing once his team was up by at least 25 or so points and telling his team to run the clock instead of run down and shoot. I understand that the young kids wanna play but their's more games that will get played, not just that one...

If you're going to play it, then what happens, happens. If your basis is "well they scheduled the game" then you're cool with pressing the entire game and only playing the 5 starters.

Waited until after the shot clock was under 7 to shoot. You rather they just get a shot clock violation the entire time?
