January 16, 201511 yr I have no idea why the teams were so mismatched but you could have made a point with a 80 point win. Or a 100 point win. A 159 point blowout tells me that they really never took their foot off the gas. Even on your luckiest of days you dont incidentially score 160 points. It would be nice to make 80 baskets in 30 minutes of practice. Anyone who has ever been involved in youth sports should have a problem with this. What does youth sports have to do with this game? This is a game sanctioned by a governing body of high school athletics in the state of California. This ain't little league. Little league teams normally don't press. Little league teams sometimes don't even let you steal the ball. Most importantly, little league teams require you to be a certain age before the scoreboard is turned on and the referees are normally teenagers who got a job because mom and dad said they need to pay their own car insurance. This game has absolutely nothing to do with youth sports. At all. I've been highly involved in youth sports and middle school sports and don't have a problem with this. As I stated earlier, I never did this myself when coaching but I would not have been even the slightest bit angry at an opposing coach at any level had they done this to my team. Everybody is different.
January 16, 201511 yr Strange thread . My mind doesnt wrap around people who seem logical stating its ok to embarrass and maul another sports team to this extent . The bench kid shot 9 three's . After making several in a row wouldnt be compassionate to tell her to take 2's ? There is room in competitive athletics for class and compassion. I know of what I speak . I coached a HS softball team that gave up a total of 6-8 runs in 14 conference games this past year . We could have ran it up routinely . And up around 100 at the half , but pressed in the second half ? Thats not " working on your game " . I guess there really is such a thing as a compassionate conservative. Oddly , And a few folk that bash that concept routinely on the basis that conservatives are mean are actually stating to just pour it on and show no compassion at all.

If I was on the winning end of this as a coach , I would feel ashamed to look the oppsoing coach and players in the eyes and shake hands and tell them "good game."

It just doesn't bother me that this fella did and I think it is silly for him to be suspended for not doing anything illegal. I will say that if I was coaching against a mortal enemy then yes I'd be perfectly fine with beating his team 161-2. I'd also be perfectly fine with losing 161-2. I'd rather lose 161-2 than lose 161-160.
January 16, 201511 yr I don't care if you're playing against a blind team. You can't beat a team 161-2, under any circumstance. I don't care if the players don't get to play a lot or not. The coach should have taught his kids some sportsmanship and told them to stop taking shots or at least pass the ball around and run offense before taking a shot. #soft. Easy way to stop them from scoring , stop them.

January 16, 201511 yr Didn't they shake hands after the game? I wonder what that must have been like? If I had trapped and pressed a group of girls into oblivion and beaten them by 159 pts, I would have my head down when shaking hands and get it over as soon as possible.
