January 16, 201511 yr I wouldn't do it. I haven't done it. I didn't do it. It just doesn't bother me that this fella did and I think it is silly for him to be suspended for not doing anything illegal. I will say that if I was coaching against a mortal enemy then yes I'd be perfectly fine with beating his team 161-2. I'd also be perfectly fine with losing 161-2. I'd rather lose 161-2 than lose 161-160. I have to say I think I agree with the two game sitdown. Let him do some reflection.

January 16, 201511 yr Is there really anyone on here that would truly be okay with beating some kids 161-2 if you could? Really now, come on. In the words of PP92 I'm fine with it and I'd sleep like a baby.
January 16, 201511 yr I have to say I think I agree with the two game sitdown. Let him do some reflection. I'm sure he refelected. Next time I'll just press until we get up 30. I'll empty my bench but we still can't have a running clock until the 4th quarter and we still have a shot clock so we'll win the game 98-14 and people will still be mad. I'm sure he learned a ton.
January 16, 201511 yr I just don't prescribe to this soft mentality in sports. If I was getting blown out I wouldn't want a team to take it easy on me , I would find it embarrassing . I would find it as motivation to get better. If I thought they were rubbing it in or showing me up well that's why the basketball gods created a hard foul. When I was young I went to small Catholic grade school . My 5th grade year we couldn't find a league so our coach put us in the Covington 6th grade league with Turners , Boys & Girls club , NKCC etc.... we lost most games by 50 plus and one game the Boys& Girls beat us like 80 something to 10 pressing the whole game. We took it as motivation fast forward to 7th grade year our exact same team played that Boys Club team now called the Hawks and beat them by 15. These are called life lessons , you take your lumps and you get better .

I took so many lumps on the basketball court when attending Catholic school and never defeated any of the public schools. They'd laugh at us on the court and all kinds of crap but the small victories in the game like outscoring them for a quarter or stealing the ball from one of the players or making a difficult shot were all fufilling moments because we never quit even though we knew we were going to lose every game by about 25+ points. I'd get insulted if a team felt sorry for us and took it easy on us. That's way more insulting in my opinion. If you ain't going to play then go home. Like you said, they were life lessons. In sports and in life there is always somebody better than you. You can suck it up and work to get better or lay down and take it and wait for the compassion. I don't need compassion for success.

January 16, 201511 yr Didn't they shake hands after the game? You said that you were a coach so I am sure you agree that there is more to Sportmanship than a post game handshake
January 16, 201511 yr Zero problem with the full court trap in the first half, IMO. That's your opinion and I'm cool with it. Personally, I would never, under any circumstance, embarrass a group of kids like this. I wouldn't have played a single minute of full court defense. I would have also talked to my team about proper sportsmanship and why we were approaching this game differently. To each his own though.

Yeah, just me personally, I could never embarrass kids like this. Apparently, this coach could, however. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.
January 16, 201511 yr They did run the clock, didn't they? Waited until after the shot clock was under 7 to shoot. You rather they just get a shot clock violation the entire time? If your beating a team 25 or more late in the game then yes
