Centralized Stadium for KHSAA state games

Featured Replies

Yes! But would they spend that money, and most likely more to play a few games a year? No.

I agree. It would be great if it could happen, but there's no feasibility in doing this in Kentucky or many other states for that matter.

It would probably HAVE to be multipurpose.

No doubt; that's the only way I could see it being done..

Do any other states have this kind of setup?

I think you see it more at the municipal level where there are large urban school systems that will have a city field to host big games between rivals and major playoff games.

Fantastic idea.....in theory.

If you want to put it in Elizabethtown (seen as centrally located, easy access to I-65; 31-W/Dixie Highway; Bluegrass, Western Kentucky and Lincoln Parkways):

1) Elizabethtown Sports Park. Already has plenty of things in place. Would have to take out the field on the hill and take the two main turf fields out of commission for a bit, but I'm sure the city would love an actual championship facility at the stadium instead of just a really nice turf field.

2) Behind White Castle. If you're coming South bound on I-65, it would be on the LEFT when you get to Exit 94 (hotels, Cracker Barrel, Roadhouse, Wendy's, Shoney's, Ruby Tuesday, etc). If you're coming northbound, it would be on the right after you get off the exit. For those coming west on the BG Parkway, it would be less than 2 miles after you get to Exit 94 (first 65 exit after leaving Bluegrass Parkway). There's like 100 acres of undeveloped land back there.

3) Ring Road. Huge building boom (New four-story government complex, Meijer, Hobby Lobby, Academy Sports, Buffalo Wild Wings are all being built currently; county's two-largest churches have relocated to Ring Road recently).

KHSAA will build on two conditions:

1..No hand-shaking after games.

2..No transfers can play.

Fixed it for you lol :)

Kind of like what JCPS did with the new gym at Louisville Valley, as there's no way the Valley wrestling, basketball and volleyball teams are filling that thing up on a nightly basis.

Hardin County Schools ALMOST did that with John Hardin. Original plans -- which were scrapped, if folks couldn't tell -- called for a 5,000-seat (not bleacher) college floor with wraparound seating for what was going to be called the HCS Civic Center.

Instead, got a gym barely bigger than North Hardin's with no bathrooms (got to go to the cafeteria), no permanent concession stand (go to a table ... in the cafeteria) and visiting locker rooms are in a crowded hallway outside of the gym.

Play one game here every Friday and two every Saturday during the regular season. (30 games a year not counting playoffs) It would facilitate "Bowl" type games every week and allow teams to not schedule 4+hour drive home and homes.

A "Meet in the Middle Game(s)" each week would be great...

Belfry and Mayfield

Bowling Green and Highlands

McCracken and Johnson Central

The list could go on and on...

What would be building construction criteria?

1) Turf

2) Lights

3) 12k to 15k maximum capacity

4) No security

5) Corporate seating (boxes) etc. This is about the only way this thing gets built

6) Soccer lines so they can use it too for finals

7) Total stadium seating around the entire perimeter similar to to The Pit at Elder (no wind)

8) HS Hall of Fame (got to reach out to the community)

9) All tickets are $15 each and food is free along with water. (People got to quit trying to make a killing at the HS level)

10) Put together a committee other than the KHSAA to organize and build this thing (People with the skills) Again, get the community involved...

Can parking and programs be free too?

And make sure the state football finals are not the same weekend as Ohio, so that I may be there to watch them.

Can parking and programs be free too?

Heck ya...:thumb:

That too is a crime imo

No.

Why not? It is centrally located, plenty of parking and lodging available. A renovation that will include box suites, turf, etc. What is the problem other than it won't be full?
