All talk aside, I personally enjoy coming up to Ft. Mitchell, I spend the night and just enjoy a great night of football. The crowd is electric, as a high school football crowd should be. Beechwood has a very nice facility, the field is always in excellent condition and with the recent changes reminds me of a small college, Murray State comes to mind. You guys have a lot to be proud of there in Ft. Mitchell.

While I agree that the field is nice being turf, the reference to Murray State baffles me. Roy Stuart Stadium seats 17,000, all on 1 side and has no buildings or anything else on any of the other sides. I just don't see it. While BW field is fine if you like turf, and I do not, I was always disappointed in the seating. Now I have never been in the field house, the new field house but from the outside it is very impressive. Overall the facility is grade A other than the seating

Vocke and Nussbaum are ones that come to mind without looking things up.

I don't remember anyone saying Vocke was D1. Size is always a limiting factor and Vocke just wasn't that big. Nussbaum, yes I am sure many said D1 on him. Just like many said D1 on Jonathon Jackson. Isn't Jackson playing D1? I thought he was. The other Mayfield player that I thought was a D1 athlete was Xavier Shelton.

I agree on the comments about the value of D1 talk. I only put that in the post above because the guys listed there already have D1 scholarships or are being recruited. I do my best not to get caught up in the hype like so many do. It really takes a special athlete to go D1.

Could be, I've never seen MF play so I can't comment on comparisons. Again though, to VORs point, there are some athletes that are pretty special. Combs in a lineman, but athletic enough to warrant a scholarship to play baseball in the SEC. Stringer is athletic enough and fast enough to earn a scholarship to play CF at Louisville, and registered a 6.7 60 in showcases. Burns is the fastest kid on the team, and Slusher also ran a 6.7. Not sure what BW has in past or who said what, but those are facts. I am sure MF has every bit as good as athletes if not better, but to dismiss this BW team as just like the rest, unathletic and just fundamental, is incorrect.

I never dismissed the prior teams or this team either and never claimed they were unathletic. I simply said from all the pregame hype about certain players over the past few years, they never blew me away as being all they were hyped to be. Personally, I think Mayfields speed and athleticism in the 09 and 10 games were a big difference in the 2 teams, but, VOR will be the 1st to tell you that Mayfields speed was never a factor in any of those games. I disagree to a point. It wasn't the main factor, but, I do think it was one of the factors, especially the difference in the interior lines. Mayfields OL and DL got off the ball so much quicker, it disrupted the Tigers on both sides of the ball.

I think it's more the team speed that has bothered the Beechies, not necessarily individuals.

Vocke and Nussbaum are ones that come to mind without looking things up.

Vocke and Nussbaum were definitely two of the names, Eykmans, who played OT was probably another. Eykmans has started at OT since his freshmen year at EKU, Nussbaum went to EKU then transferred to Georgetown, voted conference freshmen of the year at LB, Vocke has gone on to be successful at Heidelberg.

Usually when someone gets on the site early in the year and starts spewing D1 garbage, its just that. Now Mr. Jackson from MF.....well I was one of those idiots spewing about him being D1....he was a man playing amongst boys.

Backfield ... not even close. Vocke and Nussbaum .... incredible players. I believe there are 10 or 11 players off that 2011 team that are playing college sports. The 2011 New Cath team is head and shoulders above this year's New Cath team. They were undefeated when Beechwood beat them. Beechwood put a running clock on the 2A state champion Holy Cross team. That BW team annihilated people every week. I don't want to go in too deep on this here. The focus and discussion is on this team winning Friday. As good as that 2011 team was, if this team beats Mayfield Friday they will be able to make a claim that they are better.

We will just have to agree to disagree.....but that's ok, we are both hoping the tigers pull off the win on Friday!

Jackson led the OVC in tackles this year as a sophmore

Jonathan Jackson could have gone to Ole Miss if he wanted to go big, but wanted to stay close to home at Murray. Who can blame the young man for wanting to play in front of his friends and family as well as play on the same team with his former Mayfield mates. I would be curious to hear Coach Buckets take from Frankfort, his feeling was that Mayfield has the best defense in 1A. I wondered if his opinion has changed after seeing the Tigers in person

Still have not confirmation or details of reception or whatever you call it to feed Cards after game before they leave for that long ride home

Did. MF feed the tigers after last years game ?

Still wanting to know if there is any chance this game could be broadcast live online. Also, any radio stations covering the game friday please tell. I work at a radio station myself so Ill be on the Mic Friday night missing the game unfortunately, so I NEED a way to stay in touch with whats going on. Ill definitely be throwing cheers for western kentucky over the air waves though.. Especially the Cards!

I'm not sure of the wifi situation around the BW press box. It's not too hard to do with wifi. Heck, if there was wifi TP can cohost with a Beechwood fan :)

Beechwood doesn't do a broadcast and I have not heard of anyone doing a live broadcast of the game. Keep watching this thread on here to see if perhaps one of the internet broadcasters will decide to do the Beechwood / Mayfield game. If not, the update thread on BGP is probably your best bet to keep up with what is happening in the game.

mywymc.com 14.30 am covers the game and has a live stream

Ex-Lax laced brownies could make for a long ride home!
