Mayfield has played Beechwood 6 times and is 6-0 against them.

The Cardinals have out scored The Tigers 171 to 76.

Here is a look of the scores from the 6 previous matchups.

1995 Mayfield 28 Beechwood 27 State Final

2002 Mayfield 14 Beechwood 7 State Final

2009 Mayfield 38 Beechwood 0 Semi Final

2010 Mayfield 38 Beechwood 14 Semi Final

2011 Mayfield 19 Beechwood 14 Semi Final

2012 Mayfield 35 Beechwood 14 Semi Final

Can The Cardinals make it 7-0 against The Tigers and the streak continue or does Beechwood prevail and get their first win over Mayfield? I think this game comes down to whichever defense plays the best. I know our Cards defense is SOLID and especially against the run. Beechwoods defense seems to be pretty darn good too. I can recall in previous matchups we have won the battle in the trenches which IMO was the game changer in some of those games. Beechwoods line seems to be very good this year and that could be the difference in the outcome. Both teams have playmakers. So again I think it will come down to who can get the most stops and plays the best defense. Defense wins football games! So with that said I like our chances and I'm gonna say we get the victory and the streak continues on at 7-0 as we get to the final in our farewell tour of 1A. Cannot wait till Friday night! Gonna be a good one! Hope it's a hard fought game that comes out with no injuries! GO CARDINALS!!!!!

While the Cardinals certainly have Beechwood in the head to head battles and ruled the last 5 years, Some fans act as if Mayfield has owned 1A since coming down. If I tallied things up correctly, the two teams are even in Championship game appearances and state titles. Both teams had to compete against a formidable opponent nearly every season. The Tigers had Newcath and Mayfield had Danville. I have both teams with 6 state titles and 4 runners up.

Interesting that this year will break the tie.

While I agree that the field is nice being turf, the reference to Murray State baffles me. Roy Stuart Stadium seats 17,000, all on 1 side and has no buildings or anything else on any of the other sides. I just don't see it. While BW field is fine if you like turf, and I do not, I was always disappointed in the seating. Now I have never been in the field house, the new field house but from the outside it is very impressive. Overall the facility is grade A other than the seating

I didn't mean the stadium, sorry, I mean the look of the school, the massive facelift they have done to the classrooms and the main school building, the campus reminds me of Murray State, similar to the business building today.

Nothing cocky coming from me about us thinking we have owned 1A since dropping down. I'm jus happy we have been fortunate enough to have the teams to make it 5 straight years to the state finals and possibly 6 in a row if we can get past Beechwood. But I would like to add I was on the 95 team and that was the first year we dropped down to 1A and we beat Beechwood in the final keeping them from getting their 5th straight title!!!!! :ylsuper:

That 95 game was a great game to watch. To bad all championship games aren't like that.

Not only 5th, but possibly 8 in a row.

That was a great game to watch. I was a senior in 94 when we beat Murray.

By far that was the funnest game I've ever played in. I agree. Wish all championship games were like that!

Jason we were in 2A that year as you know and we had got put out the week before so several of us football players went to Louisville to watch the 2A final and we got there a little early to watch the 2nd half of yalls game. I know a guy from Murray that still claims they beat yall and to this day claims they were the 94 1A champs lol.

2002 game was also a good one. Didn't Beechwood fumble a punt near midfield trying to get the extra yard and Mayfield drove the short field for the wining score.

I think you are correct. Maybe someone can clarify that for us.

I don't know a lot about Mayfield, or Beechwood, but I am pulling for Beechwood.

02 was not as close as the score, Mf mostly controlled it the whole way but it did get dicey at one point mid way through the 2nd half and yes a fumbled punt return set Mf up around the Bw 30 and the Cards capitalized

I have read a lot of stuff on Beechwood and watched film.

I'm calling this not as close as some may think.

35-24 MAYFIELD.

Can you find any other video online of Beechwood other than the NewCath game?

Wouldn't expect you to agree. Explain how it wasn't as close as a 14-7 score. The score is the score. Its not like Mayfield was up 14-0 and tigers scored in last minute. It was tied 7-7 until late in the game when Mayfield scored on the short drive. I realize you always have your spin but you have to explain yourself on this one.

I will do one better, I will let a NKY reporter do it for me.

Mayfield 14, Beechwood 7

By Neil Schmidt

The Cincinnati Enquirer

Fact is, Beechwood needed somebody to do something. Mayfield (15-0), the state's top-ranked Class A team, had surrendered just one touchdown by its first-team defense over 10 games until the Tigers finally scored in the third quarter Friday to tie it 7-7.

Mayfield dominated the time of possession, finishing with 30:53 to Beechwood's 17:07. It ran 61 plays to Beechwood's 42, and totaled 334 yards to the Tigers' 192. Ultimately, Mayfield's defense made the difference. It handcuffed a Beechwood offense that had averaged 31.7 points per game. Tigers quarterback Jeff Wera completed just 6-of-18 passes for 55 yards. "That's the way we play: We play the field-position game and let our defense do the work," Mayfield coach Joe Morris said.

The Tigers did well just to make this a game. They were nearly down 14-0 in the third quarter, except a holding call brought back a 34-yard Parrott run to the 1-yard line.

"I'm extremely proud of this team," Burnett said. "We did a lot better than anyone thought we would."
