Jason we were in 2A that year as you know and we had got put out the week before so several of us football players went to Louisville to watch the 2A final and we got there a little early to watch the 2nd half of yalls game. I know a guy from Murray that still claims they beat yall and to this day claims they were the 94 1A champs lol.

Ha ha tell him to look in the record books to see what it says.

Mayfield 14, Beechwood 7

By Neil Schmidt

The Cincinnati Enquirer

Fact is, Beechwood needed somebody to do something. Mayfield (15-0), the state's top-ranked Class A team, had surrendered just one touchdown by its first-team defense over 10 games until the Tigers finally scored in the third quarter Friday to tie it 7-7.

Mayfield dominated the time of possession, finishing with 30:53 to Beechwood's 17:07. It ran 61 plays to Beechwood's 42, and totaled 334 yards to the Tigers' 192. Ultimately, Mayfield's defense made the difference. It handcuffed a Beechwood offense that had averaged 31.7 points per game. Tigers quarterback Jeff Wera completed just 6-of-18 passes for 55 yards. "That's the way we play: We play the field-position game and let our defense do the work," Mayfield coach Joe Morris said.

The Tigers did well just to make this a game. They were nearly down 14-0 in the third quarter, except a holding call brought back a 34-yard Parrott run to the 1-yard line.

"I'm extremely proud of this team," Burnett said. "We did a lot better than anyone thought we would."

That doesn't disprove that fact that the game was tied 7-7 late in the 4th quarter. The yardage difference and time of possession difference were mostly in the first half. Mayfield wasn't moving the ball at all late in the 3rd and into the 4th quarter. The fumbled punt was the first time you had the ball across midfield in the 4th quarter. He wasn't hit, he just didn't catch the punt. Mayfields first touchdown was a 1 play 60yd pass. not like the moved the ball down the field on them.

Is there more to the article? is seems to stop abruptly!

You certainly are the king of spin! Ever consider a career in politics?

Pot calling Kettle...anybody home???

I never claimed that the game was not tied at 7 for a very brief portion of the game. I claimed the game was not as close as the score and then I backed it up via the stats and a NKY reporter who clearly agreed

You me and everyone else watched Mf move the ball up and down the field all day and the Bw offense sputter all day. With aid of key penalty and a miracle fake punt Bw did manage a score but as I said and clearly as the NKY writer agrees. MF was the better team and Bw was very lucky it was as close just as the stats indicate. You can cling to whatever you like and try and say different but if you were there you also know who was the better team and that BW was lucky it was that close

You didn't even cut and past a specific section. you cut and pasted paragraphs from different parts of the article. It doesn't read like a complete article. My guess is they gave Beechwood some credit for hanging in there and having a tied game at that point.

Fact is, in spite of yards and time of possesion difference the game was tied. The tigers somehow managed to keep Mayfield out of the endzone. Can't really say the score was 14-0 if the penalty broke the play open.

The momentum was in Beechwoods favor at the time. The fumbled punt changed that!

Here I will repeat it for you again

Either way, MF got the rings! I wish I could've played the Tigers back in my day, would've been fun.

As Toothpick knows, I never picked Beechwood in recent years Vs Mayfield. Two years ago I was just 1 point off on the margin of victory for Mayfield, on the good side of that margin.

But, I see that this year will be different, and it won't be lopsided.

So TP, any ideas yet for a pre game meet up? Are you still planing to show up? :)

Is the game going to be on the internet at NKYSPORTS.COM?

I will give you a call tonight or in morning, still trying to get it together on this end

After all these years you still don't have it together?

:)

I am waffling a little on the score. I believe this is finally the year Beechwood wins. I want to say 21-17 out of respect for Mayfield's defense, but Beechwood has scored on everyone they have faced, including Dixie Heights. So I am going to go with Beechwood 28 Mayfield 21.

Last week was our last broadcast...would've been able to do this one but we did both the Newcath/Newport and Dixie/SK games instead.

I have enjoyed listening to some of the games you all have done, nice job!

I've been going back and forth all week on which game to go to Friday night...think I'll head over to Ft Mitchell and finally see first hand what all this Mayfield hype is about.
