Ha ha this is the most I have posted in a long time.

You come out every year for the Mayfield game, I guess you respect and love them and their fan base so much that you have to grace them with your presence every November :)

I was really thinking that you would have been on after the CCH game. You need to stay on here more than a week this year!

This won't be one long trip across the state. Mayfield will make the trip from Louisville on Friday. Cards have not previously and will not use travel as an excuse for anything that happens here.

And just for the record, unless they circle I-275 a few times, it's not really 6 hours...... Just seems like it!:walk:

Where is the game?
Beechwood. We are having a BGP BW/MF pre game meeting somewhere, as soon as TP tells me his budget :)

I do respect their program. They are a powerhouse. Most of their fans are knowledgeable and are respectful but then some of them act like they invented the game of football so I have to grace them with my presence to prove this time of year. ? I used to do that in Nov when they would have throw battles with New Cath.

Glad to see these two teams meet up one final time in our farewell tour of 1A!

From admitted limited knowledge I think it might break down something like this:

Offense

QB - Slight advantage BW. Fiegler has a lot more experience that equals this late in the season to Senior vs Jr. Arnett though has been impressive. 4 picks all year and I don't think he has thrown one since the 3rd or 4th game of the season. Still not as accurate as a Guhy and not instantaneous as the Guhy,s seemed to be but aleast Jake Guhy's equal when Guhy was a sophomore and a little ahead of where I think Luke Guhy was at the end of Luke's sophomore year. Fiegler seems to love to roll out, especially to his right and throw making him even harder to get too.

RB - Mayfield has the best back on the field in Trajon Bright who as a sophomore now owns Mf's single season TD record and rushing record but this is a back that is more of the Camron Vocke type back and not a J Jack or Nuss type. Trajon may get a yard 4 straight carries then bust a 50 yarder where J Jack and Nuss were a sure bet for a few yards per carry but not as prone to taking it to the house. The Bw backs are solid, big strong and fast and a load by committee. Studer and Stringer and the real deal and the BW preferred way. I think the RB's are a wash.

Recievers - Fiegler's favorite targets appear to be Slusher and Stokes and both are outstanding athletes with Slusher being just scary in his athleticism. Mf counters with Bacon and Kenemore and like Slusher and Stokes, both are outstanding athletes that can just go up and make plays. I think both groups are about equal.

Oline - No doubt Bw has a experience advantage but both are very good. On experience alone this may be a slight edge to BW but it is about a wash at this point.

Defense - Mf's is a team strength and I think Bw's flies a little under the radar and is excellent

DLine - Again both are strong and I know far less about the BW dline than I do of Mf's. This is a strength of the Cardinals and appears to be a BW one as well. Mf's McCampbell is as good of a rusher as there is and Kendall in the interior is a strength. Bw has seen a lot of both in the past. I think this is a slight advantage to MF

LB - both are solid and Slusher maybe the best for either team though I like Mf's as a group as all are solid and physical though young. This is a wash

DB's - Bw's is tough, ask Frankfort, Mf's are also very tough but a little smaller and that has really been their biggest weakness though Caldwell County QB Sindelar would beg to differ. I also think these groups are about even.

Special Teams

Mf's kicker and punter is Herndon who is perhaps the best punter we have had in recent memory. He is also very comfortable on FG's to 40 and capable of much further with a long in practice of 57 and a couple of over 40 this year in games. He is also a regular touchback threat on kickoffs and maybe the best spot kicker and punter we have had. I don't know much about the Bw kicking game but would be amazed if it is better than Mf's.

As for returners, Slusher is likely the best on the field but Mf's Kennemore is solid. I will call this category even without better knowledge of the BW kicking game.

INTANGABLES

Coaching - I will give Mf the edge here. Over the years I think Mf has been better at adjustments and game plans. Especially the on the fly adjustments.

Home Field - BW though I have never seen a Mf team be impacted by travel or playing on the road that I can recall and unlike most other teams, MF is accustom to this type of long distance travel. In previous games at BW MF has matched the BW crowd.

Mental - I don't care who you are, when you have been knocked out by the same team year after year and have not ever beat that team a single time it has a impact. Growing up these kids have heard seen watched and some have played against MF with a L. That is something that BW will have to overcome and could be a factor in this game. On the other hand the Mf kids have no doubt in their minds that they will find a way to win this game.

So to me, the ultimate arm chair QB who really knows nothing at all, it looks as though either team is capable of winning this one and there are no common opponents to compare for whatever if anything that is worth. I am going to go with the Cardinals in a very close game but make no mistake, I would not be surprised to see BW win this one as this is the most inexperienced team MF has fielded since 2011. The biggest factor that make me believe Mf will win is what I believe to be a coaching advantage for MF. I like the way this group has been able to adjust on the fly in the past and like the schemes the Cards use. BW prefers to play old fashion smash mouth football and try and manhandle their opponents but have proven that they can go to the air if needed. The run heavy approach should play into a MF strength forcing at least balance and I still do not feel that Bw is as strong when having to pass more which I think the Cards defense can force them to do. I also think that the Cards will be able to get some pressure on Fiegler and when under pressure he is not as good. I expect the Cards defense to hold their own and the Cards offense to scratch out a few scores provided they do not pull a Russellville and get flagged every drive. This should be a lower scoring game given that both defenses are solid. If Bw can establish the run its good night Mf. So that is my worthless guess as to why I predict Mf to win a very close game. Like others have said, I too think this is the best BW team Mf has faced since 2011 and maybe ever.

Comments to respond to parts of TP's breakdown with the caveat that I have seen very little of Mayfield:

QB's - I believe the advantage to Fieger is more than a slight advantage. Fieger's regular season stat line 93-158, 58.9%, 1650 yards, 21 TD's and 2 interceptions.

RB's - I can see making it a wash overall because of BW's multi back threat but Bright is so good it is hard not to give the advantage to Mayfield.

Receivers - Like the backs comment on Bright, Slusher is so good that it is hard for me to not give BW the advantage in this category.

Kicker - If Herndon is that good, clear advantage to Mayfield.

Dline - I am going to have to see it to believe that Mayfield's d-line is better than BW's foursome of Combs, Etler, McKown and Stokes. Beechwood also has Bright and Hamilton that play a lot on the d-line to keep the players fresh. Both of those players are playing the best football of their careers right now.

Also, for what it is worth, calpreps prediction is:

Mayfield 28 Beechwood 21

I've seen many posts about Beechwoods offense and skilled players. How good is their defense? I agree with Snakesnot! Defense wins football games.

Here is something I am going to throw into the mix that I think should be considered much more in big games between top tier teams - I will call it the stud factor. Really good teams always have those players that are clearly just a different level of athlete. Those players tend to come up big in the big games and make a difference by themselves. Here is how I see the special athletes on both teams and I ask Mayfield posters to add in the ones I am missing from Mayfield because there is probably a player or maybe two that I don't know enough about to include here.

Category 1 - The D1 athletes (a D1 athlete is a D1 athlete, regardless of sport)

Beechwood

RB/DB Ethan Stringer (Jr.) - already has a D1 scholarship in baseball from UL

OL/DL Brayden Combs (Jr.) - also has a D1 baseball scholarship but his is from UK

WR/DB Jeremy Burns (Sr.) - being recruited for a D1 scholarship in Lacrosse

Mayfield

OL Kel Carmen (Jr.?) - no doubt this kid is a D1 talent with his size and athleticism

Category 2 - No Doubt College Athlete but not sure about D1

Beechwood

Flex/DE Jonathon Stokes (Sr.) - Excellent talent and ability; makes big plays every week and certainly can play on the next level

OL Justin Overstreet (Jr.) - Has the size and ability to be D1; I will be more surprised if he doesn't play D1 than if he does

WR/LB Brett Slusher (Jr.) - May also become a D1 baseball player but has the ability to play college football if that works out better

Mayfield

RB Trajon Bright (So.) - Special talent but will his size keep him from going D1?

There may be a couple more from Mayfield I am missing so please add them in. However, please try to limit it to the highest level of athlete, not "he is a really good high school player". There are several others on Beechwood that I can say that about and who might even play a sport in college (Fieger, for example in baseball) but I am not including them in this list. I want just those very best stud players that will stand out on the field by making plays that show there is no doubt they are a college level athlete.

If Beechwood does to Mayfield what they have done to every other opponent since the Dixie game, I see Mayfield scoring about 21 on Beechwood. The defense is very strong but has given up enough big plays that it keeps me from calling them a shutdown defense.

QB STATS

Fieger: 93-158, 58.9%, 1650 yards, 21 TD's and 2 interceptions

Arnett: 103-163, 63.3%, 1659 yards, 21 TD's and 4 interceptions

QB STATS

Fieger: 93-158, 58.9%, 1650 yards, 21 TD's and 2 interceptions

Arnett: 103-163, 63.3%, 1659 yards, 21 TD's and 4 interceptions

:thumb: Ok, slight edge based on experience to Fieger. ;)

Although, Fieger's stats do not include playoff numbers. I don't know if Arnett's do.

2 great programs but I say Mayfield. This one could go either way though

Those were for the first 12 games but actually he did not attempt a pass in one of the blowouts so he played in 12 but only threw in 11 games due to the weak opponet
