Next year it will be 724 schools.

What is the total number of schools playing varsity football in Kentucky, with six divisions?

Wow!

There are between 220-245 schools playing 5A football in Texas. There are between 200-220 in class 2A, 3A and 4A. There are five classes and this doesn't include the seperate classes for private school and the Six-man football teams.

So states with more population have more schools and conversely more football teams.

This has been my argument for several years about Kentucky High School football.

It is too watered down.

In Kentucky, if you are a state champion in football, you are the best of about 36 teams in each class.

In Ohio, if you are a state champion in football, you are the best of about 100 teams in each class.

In Texas, if you are a state champion in football, you are the best of about 200 teams in each class.

Kentucky, in my opinion, should have no more than 3 classes in football.

There was nothing wrong with the 4 class system!!

So states with more population have more schools and conversely more football teams.

The point being that this state has a ridiculous number of classes in proportion to the amount of schools.

There was nothing wrong with the 4 class system!!

This... The playoffs would be much more competitive, IMO.

Yay Ohio...go move there then. Take your kids there and let them play there.

Who really cares if there are six state champions or four? There were blowouts in the state games with four classes just as there are now.

Go find a kid or coach with a ring that was won since 2007 and ask them if they feel that its value was diminished by six classes.

A return to the 4 class system with 8 team districts and the top 4 in the playoffs wouldn't bother me.

But the same number of classes as Ky...

I grew up in Ohio, but I decided to make my home in Kentucky. I love Kentucky. I just don't like having a watered down high school football playoff system.

Let's give everyone a Snoopy trophy!

Just hand out the same trophy to everybody, and make the State Championship trophy just a smidge bigger.

Who really cares if there are six state champions or four?

Must be new here, as many do care, and many have said it's too watered down.
