You're missing IHM and St. Pius. They can play with any of these teams you have listed.

Yes, sorry for the omission.

8th Big School- Camp. Co and Gray and then Holmes/Highlands/Woodland

A lot of parity in the 8th Grade division. Birds played Gray close back in early December and I think if they would play again and play like they did last night vs Twenhofel they can win. If they play like they did against Woodland last week they can get destroyed. Its all about who shows up in the Tournament.

Campbell Co might have the best overall talent but knowing they lost to Twenhofel tells me they are vulnerable as well. Woodland is good but seem to be a 2 horse team with the PG/Houston. Conner could also surprise some teams if they are clicking on all cylinders.

It should be a good tournament.

The fact that Woodland is even in the conversation is interesting. They had 3 starters pulled up to the freshmen team at Scott less than a week before their first game. Don't typically give 8th grade coaches a lot of kudos but to even have them in the conversation is a heck of an accomplishment

Their coach is a fine young man....But I would call that the TY HOUSTON factor! He is a BEAST.

Why wasnt Houston pulled up?

I have only seen Woodland once this season and it was against Highlands. The Birds looked downright dreadful and like I said the PG and Ty looked pretty decent.

Some good match ups this weekend at the Our Lady of Vivtory tournament in Cincinnati. Pius takes on #1 Visitation, St Joe Cresent Spring goes against #2 Cardinal Pachelli, St Joe Cold Spring faces St Agnes and Blessed Sacrament goes against St Gabriel. St Joe Cold Spring has played Visitation twice and Pachelli once, losing to both. Good luck NKY teams.

I would love to see Conner 8th do well but I don't see them surprising anyone.

The team to watch from Conner is the 6th grade. The 7th is tough and Buckler along with Hicks and Bowles are playing well. The key for the 7th grade will be the other 2 guards, if they are hitting shots they are hard to beat...but I do agree should come down to St Pius, HMS, and Conner

I understand there are a couple kids at Cardinal Pachelli who may be wearing Colonel blue and white next year as Frosh.

That's what I've heard also. If it's the kid I saw play CCH is getting a good player. I believe he's related to Joe F.

Of those 3 schools you mentioned... Conner probably has the best collection of guards, Highlands the best collection of bigs, and Pius probably the best top 6 or 7 kids overall in a rotation.

One thing that shocked me when watching Conner, was seeing that they basically play a zone defense the whole game. When I've seen Pius and Highlands they play 85-90% man. I know you have to play to win, and Conner does, but I love to see middle school kids playing man.

Conner sweeps Summit View tonight....

6th wins by 20...lots of mixing the lineup around and their starting PG was sick

7th wins by 10

8th wins by 37...

I have seen HMS play several times this year, and when I have watched, they put their bigs on the blocks, and play a 3 - 2 zone. I am waiting for a team to overload a side against that 3 - 2, put 1 big on the block to screen the bottom defender, and get every short corner jump shot from 12' that you want. Conner & Pius both have the types of team, and coaches that are capable of doing that. But, I can also say that the 2 Bigs from HMS have the ability to absolutely dominate & control the boards.

Fredrick' nephew and the McBride kid...Walt (?) McBride's son. McBride is still in the air but the Fredrick kid will be at Covcath next year.

Their best attribute is their ability to throw accurate outlet passes. The breakaway layup is a HUGE part of their offensive output. That is also part of the reason that I hope teams press them in the regional. Huddleston and Salter pass so well that it makes it tough to really pressure them unless you get to the intial inbounds pass.

Yes, that's Walt's son and plays a lot like him. Strong with the ball and likes to drive to the basket.

6th grade small school standings? Tourney info? Anyone?
