A great deal of talk in the girls thread about the Boone County Schools rule that middle schoolers can only play up IF they are going to either start or be a major contributor at the varsity level. At the girls level, that can happen almost routinely. At a school the size of Ryle, for a boy middle schooler to be a major contributor at the varsity level, I think you are talking about a once-a-decade type talent.... In fact, going back to the mid 70's I can only think of one player - Hatton at Dixie - that would have met the criteria of being a major varsity contributor as an eighth grader. I don't know where that leaves Vince, who I love as a player, but Ryle has a loaded class of sophomores and I would not think he'd be getting into the major varsity rotation this year as an eighth grader. If so, the biggest beneficiaries will be the 8th grade teams at Campbell County and Highlands......

Typically the Erlanger games are the first of the season then the Camel Classic the 2nd weekend of November. Im just giddy its hoops season. We has popcorn day at the office today and the smell was awesome, I kept thinking I was at a Basketball game.

No and No, 8th grade talent at both HHS and CC are solid but try again if you think any of those boys would be in the varsity rotation.

I think you're right. I know at Conner there is some sort of rule that says if you bring up an 8th grader you have to bring them up to the high school team ie not the frosh team. Conner has a couple of 8th grade girls in this situation. Frosh team was not an option.

 

Apparently this has now changed at Conner. Talked with a parent of an 8th grader that has now said his daughter will be playing Freshman. He told me that Conner only had 7 girls try out for Freshman ball.

I don't think there is an officially I also policy in boone schools about 8th graders playing up, last year and this year Cooper girls have moved up 8th graders and they have not contributed to varsity. If there is a policy it's certainly not enforced.

Definitely agree on that front! They could play frosh ball for sure, I am certain some could start. Very seldom do you see an 8th grade boy jump multiple classes. Very few Hattons and CVH playing. In girls for certain, boys much more difficult. That makes more sense.

The 2 best teams at the 6th grade level will probably be Highlands and Beechwood. Beechwood is extremely deep with kids from the Ky Bulls, NKy Thunder and the Tarheels. Beechwood will be 8 or 9 kids deep with not much drop off. Highlands is basically the whole Gametime team minus Beiting from Campbell Co., which is probably the best AAU team in NKy

I think its important to do what is best for the individual player's development. Playing varsity as an 8th grader worked out fine for CVH.

CVH is in rare company. Is he up to the task absolutely. Side note it was at Villa and not Cov Catholic. Night and Day difference. He was impressive for a frosh but he was surrounded with talent. I love the kids game!!

I'd like to hear a 7th grade list... From what little I know, I'd start with Huddleston and Gesenhues at Highlands, Gross at Campbell County.

 

I think Huddleston for sure. He with Salter probably form the best low post combo overall in that age group.

 

However, best I saw was the PG for Newport. Kid is completely in control of the game beyond his years. He makes the game go at his speed. He is very fun to watch. I just forget his name.

 

Also, what grade is Paul Kremer in? He is very good also
