Clyde and that is very rare! No argument from me, his skill set is special!

The reason for my post was in case some took your post to mean he only got varsity time because it was VMA and not CCH.

I havent seen Rankin play since the Spring, I could see him competing at the Frosh level but JV/Varsity I am not so sure....atleast not at this time.

I watched CVH play as an 8th Grader at Villa and he was a very good Varsity player at that age and very good against Highlands that year.

Is that the St Henry (grade school) tournament? They always put on a really well organized tourney in early November.

The Crusader Classic is one of the best early tournaments in the area. It starts 11/7 and runs through

11/23. If you want to see some of the private schools that's the place to be. You can find the brackets at http://www.gosthenryel.com/boosters/Portals/0/Files/CrusaderClassic/2014%20Crusader%20Classic%20Brackets%20Revision%201.pdf

My worst coaching moment ever happened at this tourney years ago. We were not very good, getting hammered, and we had a timeout. Play was set up so A passed to B. Come out of the huddle and B passes to A and it goes OOB right at my feet. Out of frustration I proceeded to KICK the ball across the floor. Very embarrassing. I immediately started heading for the lockerroom assuming I was booted but instead they only gave me a T. I still have very bad memories about that moment.

Hot off the rumor mill...

Rumor is Rankin is going to play on the Freshman team this year (there goes the 3 peat if he does). Woodland has a transfer from Walton Verona that will add some height to their line-up.

Conner boys are playing in the Erlanger Classic next week. 6th grade has two games on Thursday (teams to be named later) and the 8th grade is playing Saturday vs Newport and Ockerman. Should be a fun couple of days to watch some local kids get ready for the season.

This is completely FALSE. Vince will be at Gray and Gray only. Ryle doesn't dip into middle school for 8th graders. The only 8th graders to my knowledge that have ever moved up was Sydney Moss and Jenna Crittenden.......which both players played D-1 Florida and Xavier respectfully. Vince is a nice player but at this point I wouldn't say he's D-1 talent yet. Gray should be the team to beat again this year in 8th grade as long as everyone stays healthy.

I've helped run that tournament for last 8 years and I'm always up there mainly because i love watching basketball at all ages. It would amaze you how competitive some of those coaches are even at the 3rd grade level. I have seen coaches just rip into 8 yr old kids for losing a ball or making a bad pass. It worries me sometimes what we are teaching these kids when the adults and also parents act the way they do at this age. I've seen many coaches get tossed or T's because of the behavior. It really makes you think when you watch it and realize sports at the grade school and even high school level really aren't that important in life. I don't have stats but i bet the amount of kids in this area that actually get scholarships that are worth anything are really low. Sure you may get a little money to a small school to play but the time you spend practicing vs how much you get to enjoy the college life isn't worth the little scholarship in most cases. I'm done with my lecture sorry.:lol2:

100% correct. My moment of insanity is highly embarrassing. It's something I'll regret forever.

Ryle will have two 8th grade and one 7th grade girl playing up this year.

No and No, 8th grade talent at both HHS and CC are solid but try again if you think any of those boys would be in the varsity rotation.

?????? The point was that if Vince Rankin plays up at Ryle, Highlands 8th and Campbell County 8th benefit by not having to play against him. I don't know how you were interpreting the comment....

Newport PG named Jefferson? If so, he usually plays up with the Bears 8th grade AAU.

Paul Kremer is in 7th, so to is the point guard you mentioned from Newport Caleb Jefferson. Both and Salter play for AAU team I coach with Chris McGuire. Great group looking forward to seeing them all play in school ball.

Sorry! I went back and revisited the post. My mistake.

Ryle will have two 8th grade and one 7th grade girl playing up this year.

That is hard to believe...but I still go back to the Rankin rumor it's false can't ever remember Ryle boys dipping into middle school to get players.

For the sake of competion, I'd rather have all the 8th graders play 8th. V Rankin will be the focus of Gray's team in 8th but as a freshman his focus may be the bench. There has also been some talk of Rakwan Williams of Turkeyfoot moving up,and I'd hate to see that. These good players make all the games more fun to watch, and also make their team mates better.

Rakwan playing up for Dixie? Frosh, JV?

Dante Allen at Pendleton County... but he won't be playing middle school basketball. He had 51 points in a JV game over the summer, and routinely puts up 30-35 playing up against AAU freshman.

Surprised there hasn't been more mention of this kid. I've been told he might be the best player in the state for his class.
