I think somewhere along this thread, we got off track, trying to compare the "select" sports with the school sports. In middle school sports, I think kids should play with their grade level. If a kid is held back in the early grades, you can't penalize them for being a bit older when they are in middle school. But, I do think "select" sports / AAU basketball should be based upon the age, not the grade. I am a fan of AAU basketball finally imposing an age restriction.

And my issue is with a kid playing his Sr yr as a 19 yr old plain and simple.

 

There are zero 2 yr holdbacks at Highlands.

Being 19 playing in high school doesn't always mean you were held back twice. If a kid has a April birthday and has to redo kindergarten, if he or she plays a spring sport their senior year of high school then they would be 19 towards the end of the season.

Not a bad list. I'd add a guard from one of the Christian schools...Mason Blakemore, I think.

Not sure who I'd take off your list, but Jude Bessler at IHM is the best post player I've seen in this grade and runs the floor well. I'd have him on the list too.

From the Large school division. Although I have not seen Turkeyfoot or Holmes play yet this season, or the Parochial schools outside of St. Pius & IHM, everyone else I have. There are quite a few good, solid basketball players not mentioned here, but if I was putting together an AAU team from NKY, I would start with this pool of players.

There are 2 or 3 good kids from Highlands and a couple from CC. The new Kid from Campbell C, maybe # 15. Can't recall his number, is pretty good that I would put on the list above.

Catleman kid at Beechwood is playing JV and 9 th grade. Good point guard. Would be interesting to see him play w grade mates. Might be on this list if he did.

Can these AAU coaches ever develop their own players? Always shopping around for something better than what they currently have. Here's an idea: Actually coach and work on developing your own players, instead of constantly casting aside as the next best thing comes along. Anyone can do that. Like shooting fish in a barrel.

Good catch....the kid from Calvery, Mason, is very good. But, I don't think they have a team that plays in the Middle School League.

When you say Ryle, are you referring to Gray? They have two big kids but I wouldn't categorize them as "outstanding" one is Benson, and he is a tall kid, but he would rather stand on the 3pt line. The other big is a football kid who has only played BB for a couple years. He has great hands, can really run, and is strong. I don't recall his name.

I believe a 7th grader.

Beechwood 6th is in the semifinals of the St. Ignatius Tournament in Cincinnati. They have beaten both Visitation and St. James pretty handily. The Tigers play Oak Hills this coming Sunday. Oak Hills is huge and extremely good. They have 2 of the best players I have seen in school ball or AAU this year. It should be a very good game on North Bend Road.
