Agreed stay home! These boys work hard all year long and read BGP quite often. They shouldn't have to logon and see something like this especially from an ex player. Socks will be dealt with I'm sure, however that alone should not warrant a public thread. I'm embarrassed for whoever started this thing. I'm sure the Principal will be calling on you soon.

I agree this thread was pretty silly to start and is why many of us made jokes about it. With that said, your post was just as guilty as being pretty far fetched. To say a thread questioning anything about a program shouldn't be made because some players may read it is a little ridiculous. You really think kids today are going to be so distraught over a thread like this it is gonna send them over the deep end? Come on man! Lol

 

The boys wear big boy pants and I think can handle it. No reason to shelter them from anything that can be construed as negative. There are extremes on both ends of the spectrum and this topic is on one end and your post on the other. Sorry, but that is what I think. The boys will be fine and I don't think will be mentally destroyed because of anything said on BGP. If something like this is going to affect them as much as you fear then maybe they aren't mature enough to even log on and read BGP in the first place.

Not really bashing. When you step back and read what he was talking about you'd understand it's the lack of uniformity that solidifies a team a lot of time. He was talking about being individuals today instead of being more of a "team". The old saying there is no I in team is what I think

he was getting at.

I can agree with many points here. What you wear or how your act has never won a game in the history of football. You can go out there, where $5 uniforms and not say a word to another team and win. This is also why I don't understand why the division one colleges are using their uniforms and the "coolness" of them as recruiting tactics. That is the stupidest thing I have ever heard of. The high schoolers theses days go for looks instead of just playing the game. You don't have to look good to play football. Neon socks, neon cleats, taunting, etc. are all obnoxious things to do. That crap doesn't win a football game. Discipline within a program goes a long way for the program and for the players.

 

However, I wish to not dog on the Birds because they have one of the best programs in the country and are obviously doing things right, but discipline is very important and needs to be restored in the program. Good luck to the Birds the rest of the year.

Anyone who's spent anytime around the program knows that discipline is not lacking. Period.

I guess kids get on here and read this stuff that is posted about them or their teams from us “has beens” and “never have played but post as if we haves”. I kind of hope they do not. We over analyze these kids and pick them apart as if they were professionals. We’re all guilty of it. Yes I realize this is a sports chat site and yes, these kids should be able to handle a little criticism but some of us take it WAY over the top as if they were paid professionals. Just my opinion.

No you missed my point...you were calling out former players for some of their their criticism and said they SHOULD comment on the second half effort. It sounded to me as if former players were only to talk about positives and not address concerns. If that's not what you meant then I apologize...it just seemed as if you were saying to not criticize the team in any way.

Hard to believe no one has mentioned the "tradition breaking blasphemy" of allowing the senior players to walk out with their parents on Senior Night! What's next, homecoming candidates?
