Is Playtowin wrong for questioning lack of discipline if he sees players with Their helmets off and sitting on the steps Not paying attention to the game? I do believe last season someone posted that during a Varsity game a bench player was commanding tve attention of a parent to snag him a hot dog from tve concession stand. Just curious what the thoughts are on this and possibly how this could give Playtowin some legitimacy in his concern.

 

I will say the timing of this rant is probably Not good after the loss to Elder and tve fact that they lost 2 senior impact players for the season.

Times are a changing, what was once unheard of back when I played for Highlands, is tolerated now. You will always have the serious ones and the goof offs. But nowadays that is what you call balance, ying and yang... Oooooooooooooommmmm. But there has to be a common understanding.

Not even close. That site is full of a bunch of ignorant posters that cant see through their school colored glasses. You can't reason what so ever. Us "podunks" need to stick together over here on this site.

For what it's worth, I've never watched a Highlands game where they all wore the same color socks.

The helmets off is another area that has been pretty common over the past ten years or so. Come to think of it that coincides with HHS hitting a new gear.

I honestly cannot believe this is even a thread. Sock color? Taking off helmets on the sideline is an issue? Go to any college or pro game and tell me how many guys are standing with their helmets on. Helmets are taken off so guys can cool down and it has nothing to do with discipline. If you think HHS players aren't disciplined go check out one of their winter workouts or better yet spend some time around other programs.

Hey, never thought of that. When things are good....let em take off their helmets and maybe even have some Chunky Soup !!!

 

I somewhat agree with the lack of respect and tradition by HHS Football players but can't really comment on what the coaches are instilling in the players these days since I don't hang out in the locker rooms. They could be saying the same things your coaches said to you but kids are so different these days since most lack discipline at home. If the kid wearing the bright green socks lives in a household like I have, he either has a sock gremlin living in his wash machine or he left in a hurry in the morning forgetting his white or blue socks. Come on PlaytoWin, I think the HHS Football program has more worries right now than whether the kids are wearing matching socks. I do think HHS needs to ditch the dorky touchdown song and bring back a safe rendition of the cannon!

The only tradition that the players and coaches care about is winning. Games aren't won by having matching socks or looking good. If you think that Highlands has lost its traditional sense, then I would strongly urge you to go back and 1) reevaluate your understanding or the word tradition, and 2) after you do that go and take a walk through the locker room where the traditions are made. I think you will find that the important building blocks left by teams of the past are still intact. While I do agree that somethings have changed that I do not generally care for, such as the showy player introductions, that's not enough for me to make such a broad statement that Highlands has lost its tradition. Heck, just look at their uniforms. They have been the same for decades. I question if you are truly as close to the program as you say you are, or were, if you think that Highlands has lost, or is losing, the tradition that has built the program.

As far as taking the helmets off goes, it comes down to a health thing. Its common sense, especially when it is hot out, to take your helmet off to cool down fast when you are not out on the field. If we want to go back and rely on traditional health and safety standards, why aren't we suggesting the kids just take a few salt tablets for hydration? Because we have learned that their are more effective ways to hydrate. Same goes for cooling down by removing the helmet. Again, if you are viewing taking a helmet off on the sideline as an indication that Highlands is veering away from tradition, then I strongly suggest you reconsider what a tradition actually is.
