Heard the Bluebirds cancelled their JV game this week with Scott Co? Is this true?

 

I am betting that they did. Why do you ask? Do not think it would be smart to play a JV game the morning after arriving home sometime between 2 and 3 in the morning do you?

Honestly can't believe it was even scheduled in the first place for the day after an 8 hour round trip bus ride and game.

I had a buddy of mine tell me that. Makes since with the long trip. Mot sure why the new coach would do that either. My buddy told me that would be the third team that cancelled on Scott Co this year. I was posing the question based on the thread of the tradition at highlands and why they would cancel against a good opponent but did not know about the long trip scheduled.

Do not believe that the current coach made either schedule this year.

Why not re-schedule it? Monday? The Highlands JV already had a short schedule. Bummer for those kids.

I think on KHSAA technicality, rules won't let JV play past the week ending Varsity's conclusion of season May be wrong though.

And with the run of injuries the Birds are having, do they rely on any of those guys to move into spots. I know they have plenty of players, but at some point that might be a consideration.

I do not see this as a discipline issue at all. Actually, if you ask me, the birds were extremely disciplined in the game against Elder. I don't recall a single flag in the first half. That's pretty darn impressive. On another note, there are two possibilities for me here when considering the current state of the season and the corresponding record (2 losses so far). 1. This is simply an average year for Highlands. 2. The FL team and Elder were just better teams. I'm convinced it's a combination of both options. Though there are a few star players, this doesn't seem to be a year that Highlands dominates at every position like we've seen in some years past. There are some weak spots, but I don't personally think this will have an effect on the run to another state title. These weaknesses seem to show up when you play teams that are similar to the birds when it comes to tradition and history of putting good teams on the field. Highlands will be just fine in the playoffs and state, which I fully expect them to achieve.

 

Additionally, I'm not sure what's up with the green socks. IMO, that's a player and/or parent problem. I consider myself relatively young, but when I played, wearing colors that didn't go along with the uniform didn't even cross my mind. Even if it did, I like to think my parents would have stepped in and corrected me. With that being said, I still don't think it's a huge deal.

Well, I have to agree that he has a point in this instance. CovCath canceling scrimmages was a big topic on BGP in 2013.

This is where I'm at with this sock thing. I just don't get "why"??? Why, (when you're putting them on in the locker room) does it not cross your mind that it's not a good idea? What goes thru that kids mind in his thought process for putting them on. I don't have a huge issue with it, but I do believe they should be in uniform. I have kids, but I guess I'm getting more disconnected as the years go by!

 

What I don't understand is why don't they just provide socks and take that issue off the table? They have just about everything else a top line program needs, a $10 pair of socks can't be too big of a deal. I get that is $1000 in socks for HHS, but they also get $90 per kid for participation fees and I'm sure if you put a little direction around what color socks are acceptable, the parents would have no issue buying "team" socks.

UK#1, I rarely agree with you but as an HHS fan I am with you here. To my fellow HHS fans who are closer to the program than me, has HHS canceled the JV game and if so, why? HHS cannot use the timing of the game as an excuse - the varsity game was scheduled a long time ago. Not buying the injuries either. HHS is not a school that dresses 30 kids. They dress 100 kids (give or take) so they have enough bodies to easily field both varsity and JV teams. The JV kids (for both teams) practice just as much as the varsity kids and deserve to play games.

 

I just think it is weak when schools cancel games that they agreed to play initially. Unless there is some very compelling reason (contagious sickness in school, death of a player or coach, stuff like that), you should have to play the game IMO. I ripped CCH for canceling against HHS last year. To be consistent, I have to be harsh on HHS for canceling against Scott Co.
