The UNC scandal..

Featured Replies

Does anyone think the NCAA will come down on them with proper punishment?

This isnt a minor ordeal, yet the NCAA has made it look like one. In reality it is probably the largest scandal in collegiate history. 18+ years of "fake" classes to make sure athletes could been deemed academically eligible, primarily in basketball and football. To me that is a big deal and should be treated as such, yet up until the feds and national media started investigating it, the NCAA just swept it under the proverbial rug.

So what's your take on it? Will the NCAA come down on them? If so, what do you think the sanctions will be? Also, what do you think the sanctions should be?

I'll be shocked if much is done...even though if it is as bad as rumored, I could see them sitting both programs down for a year.

Not rumored, UNC admitted the violations

A few mid majors should be on alert. The NCAA is sure to make an example of someone.

What has UNC admitted to doing?

They stripped Memphis of wins and their national runner-up status over an ACT taken by a player that wasn't even at Memphis at the time. This after they gave him permission to play for the Tigers by virtue of the Clearinghouse ruling. No university in the nation would not have played Rose after getting approval from the Clearinghouse and the NCAA. But after the fact and the season long over the NCAA lowered the hammer on Memphis.

I would think that by using those extreme penalties on Memphis as a guideline that UNC's 18 years of cheating and fraud should result in them being stripped of both their national campionships they won during that time, all conference titles, and also a boatload of wins. And I'm only focusing on basketball. Their other sports that had players who benefited from the scandal should be handled in a similar fashion.

But that will never happen. The NCAA will never go that far with UNC.

Hypocrisy at it's best.

Any chance that UNC would have to forfeit Roy's title

While I dont see it happening I think we can all have a unanimous vote that we'd have no problem with this happening.

If the NCAA throws the book at UNC it will be the first book that many of their players have ever seen.

Sounds bad. The NCAA might be so mad at UNC, that they give the death penalty to Wright State.

I don't know all the details, but I really don't understand how this isn't the most annoying thing on ESPN with continuous coverage. To me this scandal seems huge. Way bigger than Gurley signing autographs, Jameis stealing crab legs, of if Manziel should start in Cleveland.

If this happened at UK and Cal was around, they would take away my diploma.
