SK's linebackers were non-existent. Dixie totally dominated in EVERY PHASE of the game. I watch SK play sometimes and wonder why they NEVER make adjustments on defense. They stay in a three man line on defense, NO MATTER WHAT.

 

Marksberry does not make adjustments, never has, never will. Hats off to Dixie!

Man oh man was that fun. I'm not sure where to start.

 

1) Awesome job by the lines of Dixie. On offense they were driving the SK line back 3-4 yards on just about every play. On defense they were crashing the line and either bringing down Racke/Powell or were forcing them to go outside where the rest of the D was waiting for them.

 

2) Luke Zajac is an animal. Bringing him down tonight (and every other game I've seen him play this year) required an army. Either by stiff arm or lowering the shoulder he consistently gained nice chunks of yards after contact. And that cut on the 27 yard TD.... Wow.

 

3) Drew Moore did exactly what Dixie needed him to do to win the game and that is controlling the game and minimize mistakes. He had a few overthrows but other than that he ran the offense perfectly. He made great decisions on the read option and SK didn't know how to handle it.

 

4) I was impressed by Winkler on the occasions that he got the ball. He was shifty and really made the secondary cover down to stop big gains.

 

5) The sportsmanship from both teams was great to see. Helping each other off the field and multiple players getting together with the opponent after the game to offer congratulations/words of encouragement.

 

6) Congratulations to Coach Brossart and his staff. They put together a phenomenal game plan and it worked out perfectly.

 

7) I hope both teams made it out without any significant injuries.

Oh, and it feels great to be on top :thumb:

- Why worry about passing when you can run like Dixie did. Brossart not only said that he feels as if over 10 pass attempts would have meant a loss (I heard that too in the media "gathering"), but he also thinks they pass well enough, but don't have to.

- What adjustments would Marksberry make? They were shoved all over the ballpark when Dixie ran between the tackles, and most of the time when Moore kept it on the read option, they had no one who could match-up with him athletically. They did get him a few times for losses, but not many. Dixie is too big, too strong.

- Dixie absolutely put the clamps on Powell in the second half. He had 71 first half yards, 24 in the second. That's quite an accomplishment based on what he has done recently. As good as Moore and the running game were, Dixie's defense were what impressed me tonight.

- Winkler is a nice receiver, but Simon Kenton had nothing in the vertical passing game. 11 catches for about 75 or so yards? Dixie was more of a threat throwing the ball downfield than SK was.

Last week it was the weather. Now it's SKs Defensive game plan. Wow this is getting good.

Exactly. Everyone is taking out their frustrations on uk-myself included-but don't let that tarnish how good Dixie played. Perhaps our Mayfield friends are a little less skeptical.

The good news kid is the sun came up again today and there is nothing wrong with knowing you are not the best team out there but also knowing the season isn't over and you team has to get back to work and focus on your next opponent and go after the main prize.

 

Regroup SK, still alot of football to be played and a lesson learned last night should help prepare your team for the playoffs.:thumb:

 

I truly believe though that SK has the talent and size to play this type of opponent more than just once during a regular season and I also believe the lack of big physical and fast teams on their schedule showed and exploited some weakness's last nite.

 

For SK to take the next step, they must rethink how they schedule early in the season and not wait until it too late...JMO

Sweeperboy I could not agree with you more. In the past Simon Kenton's weak scheduled did not get them prepared for the better teams in 6A in the deeper rounds of the playoffs. Then when they got there it was game over. The good news is for the Pioneers is they still have the rest of the regular season and early rounds of the playoffs to make adjustments. Simon has got to find more speed on defenese, and if that means playing smaller but quicker players it will pay off in the playoffs. (I think Highlands has had some pretty good sucess with the formula in the past). I know I know except for Collins last year. Been beat to death twice.

Thats the beauity of this win for Dixie. They lined up and took it to SK. Everyone knew what Dixie was going to do. SK could not take it to Moore, they were all blocked!

Dixie did a great job in this game. We'll see what this team this Pioneer team is made of vs. Bullitt next week. Time to start a new streak.

 

Film won't be pretty at SK this morning. If this SK defense wants to talk it, they better start playing it.
