Moore averaged nearly 10 yards per carry. Unacceptable for a defense that prides itself on being one of the best around. Some of those guys (not all) need to take a long look in the mirror and decide if they're playing for 'we' or 'me'.

Hell, I thought I'd take a chance.

This season has shown two things to be true.

1. Teams can get a couple good breaks that will make them look better than they are only to fall fast when those breaks don't occur.

Cov Cath vs Dixie was a perfect example. The 2 kick returns for CCH took the wind right out of Dixie that game and they couldn't recover. SK like Cov Cath once exposed they fall back down to earth and struggle against avg to good teams. SK was exposed a couple weeks ago and almost lost to 2 avg teams.

Here is my take on Dixie's loss to Cov Cath - Dixie did not recognize who they were and did not play to their strength. Dixie is a running team. Yes, stop the run and you can stop them. But they are too good at it to be stopped. They are not good at throwing the ball. Moore is inconsistent throwing it and their receivers are inconsistent catching it. Against Cov Cath, Dixie got behind because of the two early punt return scores and then tried to throw the ball more than they should have to get back into it. Ball game.

 

If Dixie's coaches would have stayed focused on running the ball, that game would have been much closer and Dixie might have even been able to overcome the deficit. Moore was not good at all throwing it in that game. That just isn't who he is as a QB. Brossart is exactly right - if Dixie has to throw it 10+ times in a game, it will be tough for them to win. If they get behind a team by 3 scores in the second half, they still need to keep pounding it and go for the big plays there where they have a better chance of making it happen.

 

As to those saying SK should have made adjustments, Beechwood made every adjustment you can make to try and stop Dixie running it and they couldn't stop them. I think Beechwood even had their goal line defense while at mid-field and Dixie still ran it for positive yards. Dixie is the epitome of the old time "here we come, you know what we are doing, we know it but can you stop it."

The wheels would LITERALLY have to come off the Dixie bus on the way to Ryle for the Raiders to compete with the Colonels. Ryle gave a teeny tiny peek at SK's vulnerability - Dixie pulled the curtain completely off the rods. Dixie crushed the Camels, Ryle beat them in OT. Dixie could win by more than 5 TD's over Ryle easily.

 

Agree. Too many people letting a little improvement over a weak 6a influence their decision. Dixie gets to a running clock in this one

I know a lot of the posts here are kind of directed at uk#1fan, he does bring a lot on himself, but this isn't about him. It's about two good football teams competing in a "crunch time" game.

 

You couldn't have said it better Dog. Never did I ever for once think that anyone person is bigger than a football program so you are correct its about the kids and two good football programs, nothing more and nothing less...

What you posted is true of any defense regardless of the number of down lineman.

 

 

3-5 makes it hard to get to the lbs because of the angles that the ol has to take coming off the double slips, it's not like they defense is lining heads up.

 

Correct it is like an old 5-2. However that extra down linemen makes a huge difference at the LOS more consistently. I played OLB in a 3-4 in college. I loved it, but we were susceptible bn the the tackles even w an All American NT. He could defeat one on one blocks and was good on the double. Problem was that guards could still get to ILBs too often without being touched.

I would love nothing more than for Ryle to shock Dixie and create a 3-way tie. But there is NO WAY that will happen. Ryle proved that SK was overrated in their match-up a few weeks ago. Not many wanted to believe that until last night proved it! No, Ryle won't beat Dixie!
