I agree with all that. Especially the limited passing attack by SK. I noticed that a lot in the two games I saw. In fact, I was thinking to stop a ton of their offense, I would put an athlete right up on Winkler with a safety over top. I would take that flats pass away completely and make them do something else. But I agree, Winkler is good.

Yup every team has a bad game glad SK got it out of the way before the playoffs. Time for the Pioneers to dig in for the playoff run we have been waiting for.

You can run a 3-5 if you are able to hold at the point of contact on doubles and get off single blocks. IMO, a lot of kids have a tough time getting off blocks after getting scraped on. Look at the Steelers, Ravens, any real good 3 man front. Big bodies whose stats are not overwhelming but are tough to move and linebackers never get touched. When either guards are getting right to the ILBs or linemen are getting pushed back so the ILBS can't scrape and take good angles you will get killed. For those saying that you HAVE to blitz for it to be effective....do you want to really have a base d that you have to run huge risks so that it works? I would use them to create turnover opportunity, not to mask the inherent weakness of the defensive formation.

What you posted is true of any defense regardless of the number of down lineman.

 

 

3-5 makes it hard to get to the lbs because of the angles that the ol has to take coming off the double slips, it's not like they defense is lining heads up.

Oh how short your memory is. For weeks leading up to last night, we listened to the same garbage from you. What makes you think things will be better for you in a few weeks? Tempering your comments and hoping it's not worse in the playoffs might be prudent.

Watch the tape. Even if SK made every tackle that they could have it would have been downfield almost every play.

 

I agree. And someone in a different thread or earlier in this one said it, no second layer for SK. Once the Dixie RB's cleared the line, they were hitting DB's. I do think SK will look a the film and be able to do something different to slow them down if they see each other again. But there weren't any adjustments that I saw because the entire stands knew what Dixie was running when they lined up 80% of the game. There are ways to stop what they were doing...but if you're Dixie, why change? It was one of those "Here's what I'm running, stop it if you can!" things.

 

I do think Dixie could struggle with teams that have good teams speed because even though they had receivers open all night and dropped to TD's, the passing game is not very good. I understand you didn't need that against SK, but what happens when you play a team that is not effected by the speed of Moore and the pounding of the other guy. It will happen eventually. I really hope they can react because if they can, they can be really good.

I like Dixie to make a run in the playoffs but I agree with some on here you better be able to throw the ball against the big boys or you will struggle and Moore will take some licks. I do think in High School its easier to stop the run than the pass. Dixie is playing well at the right time.
